One option for City is to recall either Whyte or Murphy. They are not wing backs and neither have the crossing quality of Giles but they are our players. Whether they’re good enough or would be suitable is another matter but if there’s no ready made replacement on the market fitting our budget then beggars can’t be choosers.

The other option is to promote from within.

Either way it’s a problem that needs sorting.

Don't want Murphy back as long as he has a hole in his ar$e. How many chances do we give him?

Poor attitude, doesn't give his all, head goes down far too easily. Even the manager at Preston, who coached him at Norwich, was only using him as a sub before he got injured.

Whyte seems okay at Oxford but no better than low average in the Championship. A no from me as well.

Given Bagan's stock has fallen, with no other candidates for the slot on the left I dont think we have much choice but to look outside the club.
A change of formation with a CB playing at LB or looking to play one of the RBs on the left might work, but still a sticking plaster solution.
A problem of our own making unfortunately.
Either way, Hudson has a job on his hands.....

Reactions: ninian opinion
Decisions over the next 4 weeks will be critical. It's no good assuming we'll be playing Championship football next season and we'll have a look at it again in the summer. There has to be a conviction at the club that either we have the necessary personel already in house to achieve that target, or commit to acquiring players right now that will - even if it's for the short term.

Birmingham media suggesting Wolves could well loan back out Giles and Sanderson once covid issues subside and players return from Afro Cup.

Whether they return to us and Birmingham, who knows?

Murphy injured...again so we won't be going down that route hopefully.

Doesn’t appear to be a left back but could be a Replacement for Nelson
I think we'll be very limited on new arrivals this month so need to make them count.
Not sure replacing someone in situ and carrying two wages is the best option when we desperately need a L(W)B and a ball playing CM / fetch and carrier, though Wintle might be seen as filling that role.

Given Morison only has a contract to the end of the season I dont see any permanent signings, just loanees.

Were we to offload Brown, who has limited ability, then Roberts could be useful. The article indicates Potter rates him. Certainly good cover for Nelson but game time not guaranteed - something Brighton are likely to want.

As it stands, unless Giles returns later in the window, left back is a more pressing need with only Bagan (who can play wingback) and one paced Brown as cover.

As mentioned, we clearly need a creative midfielder to help the forwards plus a pacey winger who knows how to play football, unlike Murphy.
