We’re looking at loans. Nothing permanent. Loans always happen in the last day or two. West Ham, for example, have been linked with Jessie Lingard from United on loan since September and it looks like that will be completed on deadline day as his options narrow. I still think Williams is a possibility. We’ll see.
By all accounts we want a loan of a fullback, we’ve only been linked to a loan of a fullback and we’re only likely to get a loan of a fullback. I don’t think anyone should expect anything more. As I said, I still think we’ll get that.
On the Athletic just now: still hoping for Williams but looking at fullback cover on loan all over the place to find something. Volkins and Val both seen as more attacking players and not natural defenders.
My autocorrect is only just realising that when I write Diallo I mean Diallo and not Diablo, so has stopped changing it.
What on earth? That surely says a lot about him though ... hes 19 years old, throwing his toys out the pram about not playing enough.
Not sure that is him throwing his toys out the pram. He wants to play first team football to maximise his development - fair enough. We aren't playing him so he has asked to leave so he can play first team football - fair enough. If anything it is good to see a youngster with hunger and drive to be the best he can be. I don't know why we don't just loan him out though - keeps everyone happy.
Disappointing if true, but I thought he would have had a few more 1st team mins by now. That said, where would he go with the promise of more, that isn't a lower team?
Apparently Groningen are interested. He’d certainly be able to play first team football much easier there and it would be a stepping stone to a big move if he did well in the Dutch league. Easier than getting in the first team here.
Very strange. Saying he does not want to play with academy team. Does he not realise they also want to play 1st team? Doesn’t sound like he gets the ‘team’ thing!
For his sake, I hope he is a success there, and perhaps he can make it permanent as it seems he will always be on the fringes at St Mary's.
Very strange from Jankewitz. I thought he was very highly thought of, and it’s clear that chances are given here to young talent.
From memory he was highly sought after when we signed him as a youth player, probably thought/was told he’d have had more of a chance in the first team by now, which might be why he chose us over other teams. Don’t know enough about him to know if he has developed enough to merit it though
I haven't read the article so maybe there is more to it than just the headline. Some on here are subscribed to the Athletic so may be able to tell us more. But I don't think Dan Sheldon is a journalist who makes stories up.
I can wholeheartedly recommend people signing up. Vastly superior to your normal football news websites. No ads, no clickbait, and a regular supply of Saints articles! The interview with Vesty last week was a good read (they all are though).
