Well, after two toothless displays with one goal Harris needs to be given some dough to buy/loan a winger, creative midfielder and striker.

Why go so far down the leagues?

We've seen a few "ex-arsenal players" down the seasons.

Might as well play a young gun of our own.

At least he's not "recovering from serious injury".

If we pull in anyone at that level for first team action instead of the likes of Brown or Coxe, that's the death knell for our academy system.

The way I read that was it's supposed to be backup for Bennett, but FFS we already have that. I'm not particularly having a go at Bennett, but we need players who are better than we already have, not just backup for current position holders.

Any imports in January have got to be meaningfull to improve the squad in an attempt for a top 6 spot this season. That probably means spending some real money and/or picking up player(s) out of contract this summer.

Otherwise leave it alone, wait until then and battle it out and try to improve what we've got. That shouldn't be that difficult for any capable manager when starting from the low standard we are right now.

Its the way it should be sparkey.
Develop from within or sign a player better than we already have.
Harris said we have a bloated squad. Thats because we keep signing back ups.
If jazz can cover LB and RB that is all the cover we need, along with coxe.

I'd happily see 5 or 6 go out with 2 bits of quality coming in come january.
Stick with the defence we have. A CM and a winger could be the difference. Ward and Glatzel could be all we need up front if they get the right supply.
We can worry about refining the full backs come the summer.

Bamba & Morrison are cover for CB.

As I said above the priority surely is creativity in CM, a winger (even though we have 4 on the books but none are setting the league alight) and a striker who runs the channels & knows how to score consistently.

Not impressed at all by him this season - seems to have lost that assured attitude he built up in the Prem. He looks nervous when the ball comes anywhere near his box, and the least said about his distribution the better.

I thought Smithies was doing OK when Etheridge was injured and very unlucky to be dropped. Smithies is plenty good enough for this division. Take the money if it's anywhere near double figure mills and reinvest in a proven goalscorer even if it's just a loan. I'll just do another post on that subject below.

Goalscorer from post above. Anyone notice that Chris Wilder has told his captain Billy Sharp he can leave in January?

I know he's 33 but if anyone can find the net in the Championship it's him. I'd take him loan or buy.

How about a midfield dynamo to compliment Tomlin. We don't need another striker. Feed them and they will score.
Play to the style of the striker and they will score. This fascination with getting a striker is becoming tedious, we don't need another striker, we need the ones we have to get better service.

Totally agree about the midfield being a priority, but we shouldn't rely on someone else in there to make the bullets for strikers firing blanks.

There is no way you can be so certain that those we've currently got up front can put chances away - Sharp for instance can.
