That's the point i'm making. I find it acutely embarassing that little Bournemouth with a ground capacity 1/3 of ours has a record signing worth £2m more than our record signing.
Add to that how much money we've made from six years top flight, and all the player sales. Have they ever sold a player?
I couldn't agree more. I actually posted last week that I didn't know how they could do it with a small ground and no major signing going out. I do feel something is going on in the club that we need to find out about.
I see Andy Carroll is injured again. He may need surgery and be out for 4 months. This is why (and the fact he's a thug) we should never go near him. Chelsea are looking at Peter Crouch instead.

I often wondered what happened to this kid. Much promise and disappeared down the divisions almnost overnight it felt like.
This is what I would consider a proper saints signing. Young, hungry, talented, playing below his level... and cheap.

If ever there were a player who needed to go to finishing school before the big move, it'd be Powell.
It's a strange one, though. I remember when he went on loan to Wigan the first time, thinking that he looked every bit a player who'd be producing in the PL in short order. Then he went spent a couple more years on loan and couldn't get a game, before reemerging once again for Wigan.
Basically, I'd be happy to take a chance on him for not very much, but I also wouldn't be shocked if it ended with us loaning him back to Wigan a year later, because he seems to only be good if he's near, but not actually in, the city of Manchester.

NZ, hungry is not a word I’d use for Powell. I’ve followed Powell closely and seen him live a few times because my father-in-law is a season ticket holder at Wigan. I saw him as recently as 1st Jan.
You are correct that this lad is playing below his level, however I have not seen such a big time charlie for a long time. He is clearly talented but has a serious attitude problem. He’d have to change that before stepping up to the PL. If people think Redmond screams and shouts on the pitch, wait til they see this guy. From the first moment he is in the face of the referee and not in a good way.
If you had used the word ‘attitude’ here as well, you’d be just about right. He has the talent but not the attitude and I agree about the loan part too.
Yeah, I seem to remember him getting at least one move terminated for lack of effort. It's a risk I'd still take at a very low fee, though I'd be sure to make sure we weren't reliant on him at the same time.
My only hope would be that, for as well as he has played in the lower leagues, he'd understand that he pretty much has just one more shot at the top level before he's forever marked as a Football League lifer. Nothing against Football League lifers, mind, but that should be a motivator.
Think it was Jeremy Wilson who reported that Liverpool paid £70m up front and Celtic were due £7.5m. He said the reason we wanted most of the fee up front was so we could sign players in January.....
It was also reported we got £23m up front with further payments to come, of which £6m went straight to Celtic.
It doesn’t really matter when they pay the money, because we would just structure our payments in a similar pattern.
