If it was to be City, much as it would pain me, id like us to only take players in exchange. They have a massive surplus of young attacking players; whilst I’m sure many will want to stay, there will also be some who see that they’re not going to get in above the megastars that Pep is bound to get in each time the window opens.

We should sell him. This season he's not been as dominant as last season and there wasn't a massive (if any) difference in our performances in matches he didn't feature. He also doesn't want to be here so what's the point in keeping him here.

On Saintsweb by K Billy's Supersound (usually right) about VVD:

'Should he? yes. Has he been? yes. he'll soon get his dream move.'

The thread was talking about City at the time so hopefully it's them.

Well if City, Liverpool and possibly Chelsea want him we can get much more than £70m. That's 3 of the richest clubs in the world - well 2 at least. Unless we have no money, then it's a different story

The very high value was arrived at because we did not want to sell....in other words people just assumed we wanted more because we turned down offers. His price if/when he goes will be lower than the imagined price....he's good, but doesn't walk on water. There are other CBs out there.

Christ Fran, that’s straight out of the Les negotiation for Dummies book. He will be writing this down ready for his meeting with the Sheiks I’ve no doubt

I saw negotiation skills like this on The Apprentice recently Fran.

"It's a bit **** isn't it?"
"Yeah. I suppose it is"

But equally, we are the team involved this time.

Even when I was supportive of Les, I've rarely been convinced that he's opened his eyes to the modern day market, and the sort of fees you can really get out of the big boys.
It's really only the Mané deal that I feel we had our drawers pulled down and our botty slapped over. And that was because we had blinked first and sold early. Regardless I'm not too sure that the ultimate VVD fee will be a fair barometer of Les's ability here anyway. If we are selling so soon after digging our heels in then it's because we want him gone so that clouds things a wee bit too.

A real shame Holland didn't qualify. Then we could have bullied & threatened him. Treated him in the same manner he has been treating us.
Let us just hope that our rich friends up there in the league, all have bad CB days from now until the window opens so we can shift our brat pretty darn fast.

Which 20 players should we be going for in this window to replace the dross in the squad?
I'd hazard a guess at absolutely anybody as long as their hamstrings are ok.
New men in for MP2 and Reed as well, looks like it'll be an interesting January

Happy for them to take him on the proviso that we reinvest the loot. Just don't know how likely that is though.

All of it. And that includes another CB, I think. The Hoedt/Yoshida/Stephens trio might be adequate, but we're going to need more than adequate unless we start scoring in bunches.
