We bought Wesley Hoedt. And we either show faith in Jack Stephens or we let him go.

Defending is something you do as a team anyway. Having the right keeper, and the right guy to sit in front of the back 4 is equally important as the right CB pairing. With the emphasis on pairing.

We did buy Hoedt. However, it's evident that Hoedt, Stephens and Yoshida are well below-average as a combination. We aren't really in a position to leave well below-average alone.

And yes, defending is something you do as a team. We actually defend as a team reasonably well. However, our CBs commit an awfully large number of unforced individual errors, which have cost us quite a few points, and the sitting mid and keeper can't really do much about that.

Hoedt has not hit the ground running and Stephens is needing some nore experience but if there's any area of the pitch I will accept the VVD negative influence it has to be the CB pairing. Stephens and Yosh were good for most of last season. Hoedt came in looking good but they havent had a chance to settle and bond yet. There's not the chemistry inplace as a centreback team but I think it will come with time and a bit less pressure. Whether you think that will happen this season is another matter. Goals going in will help as much as keeping them out.

The main thing I have seen recently has been rushed, slightly panicky defending. Too many scuffed clearances landing in our half at the feet of attacking midfielders. Previously we would have played it out or got well rid. A bit more calm required.

‘Considerably worse’ - Van Dijk was crap this season anyway. We could do with another CB in the long term, but Hoedt, Stephens and Maya are better than almost all the defences down there in my view.

Bednarek is still here also. And Gardos. Not good obviously but we have numbers there.

Plus McCarthy has given me more confidence.
Didn't say anything about Van Dijk did I? Calling Gardos a player is insulting to non league players at this point

I'm more excited about Promes than any other speculation regarding Saints this window.

Here's some clips from last season. He's just the ticket.

Totally agree. This is a bullshit rumour site but if he is on 135k a week I dont see it happening. If it does happen and he signs for a massive pay cut he will be gone in 12months. I will take that now because we are desperate.

Dont think we will get quincy promes imo. Can see bigger clubs that pay higher wages going for him

And a seeming lack of communication. As Beefy said, no one takes charge, and it often ends with both CBs assuming that the other will pick up someone.
