De Wijs will arrive with Mark Warburton’s R’s on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season, with the London outfit having the option to make that move permanent in the summer with City receiving a fee from Rangers.
“It’s a loan with a view to a permanent move,” confirmed McCann.
“I’m sure there will be, I don’t think Ehab lets anyone walk out of the door for nothing, so I’m sure there will be, yes.”
De Wijs, regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Championship early into his KCOM Stadium career, has struggled for form and confidence in recent months, though McCann struggled to pinpoint why his form had stuttered.
“It’s hard to say, really,” he said.
“He started the season OK, really, he’s been picking up little niggly injuries with his calf and he seemed to have that problem for a while.
“I think Jacob has taken his chance.
“We brought him in for the Rochdale game for his first game and he’s gone from strength to strength.
“It’s probably the best time for Jordy to seek pastures new, and like I say, Greavsey has been excellent, and we’ve got another excellent one who is challenging him every day in Sean McLoughlin.”
