Last season I thought that Jamie Vardy showed so much guts and endeavour that he reminded me of the late great Frank Large (apologies to you youngsters who must be wondering what this is all about)
Frank was a bustling centre forward signed from Northampton for £25000 who had not much skill really but who had so much heart and desire that he would scare defenders and goalkeepers into errors just by being 10 yards nearer to them than they expected.
I remember his goal at Roker Park when Jim Montgommery (no slouch between the posts) came for a halfway line back pass and Frank made up a good 30 yards before slotting it into an empty net.
This season Jamie has still terrorised defences with his pace and commitment but he has added a deft first touch and a predatory goalscorers instinct.
well done JV---------most improved player of the season

Vardy was superb today and deserved his goal. He won us the penalty and the free kick which De Laet's goal came from. Purely by not giving up

It's a basic thing which Vardy does but it's proving very effective

He is getting better and better as the season goes on

Vardy is fantasic. Coming from non-lge, getting a grip of 2nd tier football & giving 100%. I´am so happy when he scores or has a big impact on a game. He´s earning his salt this season & long may it continue.

Frank was slightly before my time but my old man waxed lyrical ... he was also a huge fan of Davie Gibson and his last favourite in watching the City from the 1930s to 1979 was the late great Keith Weller ... I pride myself that he had great taste!

Goalkeepers weren't the protected species they are now in Frank's day. Remember a game vs. Everton at Filbert St. where he had their keeper, Gordon west, on his knees almost crying for mercy.

Why the f**k did we part exchange Frank for that twat Clarke :emoticon-0106-cryin And yes Vardy as improved so much this season, did not rate him last year but he as really come on this season.

Remember Frank Large playing with a broken nose and heading the ball from the edge of the area. Ball hit the bar, which then bounced for the next 20 seconds. Reminded me a lot of Andy Lochhead who gave his all for us.

You guys are old :p My dad and his dad will prob know what your on about though <ok>

I've only been a fan for about 20 years, one of my first memories was Steve Walsh scoring that header against Derby at Wembly. Good times!

Vardy deserves alot of praise for his effort, but i think Nugent has to take some of the credit as a model striker who never gives up on anything.

I'd like something of what Vardy's on- never gives up on the pitch. Didn't grumble when he wasn't getting on the pitch, clearly worked really hard over the summer and is now keeping a striker of the caliber of Chris Wood on the bench, who does seem to have suffered from a bit of role-reversal.
