Take a bow. Great little player. Efficient, aware and creative too. Played well out wide and in the centre. Good sharp passing, good awareness of what is going on and always looked to go forward after being told to do so by Mauricio. He's making himself hard to ignore and is banging the drum for more appearances. Very impressive talent.

He's going to go far. Glad he's tied down too. Promising times.

But...but...but...he`s from.......PORTSMOUTH !!!!!!!!!:emoticon-0131-angel

Barkley's more "Rooney-esque" in that he is powerful, good at dribbling and has a heck of a shot on him, more of an eye-catching player, so I can understand why he gets the attention.

JWP looked good last week and even better today. He was our main creative force in the first half and looked good making the play from deeper as well. If he continues to improve he'll be some player. I'd almost go as far as to say he's already better than Lallana, but I'd have to see a bit more of both of them at this level to really be sure about that.
He's no where close to Lallana. Adam was back to his best yesterday, unplayable at times.

What you are forgetting is that JWP is only 18...he has just started to pick up the pace...how good will he be in his twenties if he maintains progress. Lallana is older, but he has to work hard to maintain his standard in the PL. Perhaps his talent enabled him to coast a bit in the lower leagues...sure he has more to give. Will have a good coach in Mauricio.

Has the potential to be as good as 'Paul Scholes'
Don't forget he is playing with 12-15 million pound player around him now!

One of the good things about JWP is that he gives us dead-ball options from set pieces. We missed them last year.

Totally different type, you say he is nowhere neat Lallana, yet how many chances did Lallana make compared to JWP. You do not need to beat 5 players on a mazy run to be a threat. I keep on comparing JWP to beckham and I believe Beckham never beat 3 defenders before delivering his cross in his career

Whoscored stats say JWP had five key balls, compared to Lallana's one. I know these stats are often dubious, but I can believe it, because I thought Lallana was crap.

Think he will play tomorrow or be rested? I want him to have as much game time as possible but 2 days rest is not enough.

I often think of Beckham when I think of JWP. Becks was known to practice free kicks on his own after the rest of the ManU squad had left training. He changed himself from a good but not outstanding player to the first name on the teamsheet by working on the best skill he had. You don't have to beat several players if you can put a pinpoint pass at the feet of a player who can. JWP is also good at freekicks closer to goal, but for the moment will be held back by the presence of Lambert. He has youth on his side and one day may be our goalscorer from direct free kicks.

For all of Saints signings, their biggest gain could be JWP's transition into the first team. He has fantastic delivery and composure.

Saints fielded four players against West Brom at the weekend from their famed academy, while eight of their matchday squad were English.

Quite remarkable in this day and age.

Nicola said that Saints are aware of their duty to provide players for the national squad...a little smug, but I loved it as it was a hidden dig at other PL sides. I think Nicola has a second dream of seeing England play with several players from our Academy or at least trained in the Southampton way. He may be a megalomaniac but he's our megalomaniac.
