In the first half made a fantastic tackle on Hazzard running at him full flight. It was almost like Moore on Pele.
He's great at that Chester, holding his ground as players advance towards him, then stylishly, and with impeccable timing, he nicks it off their toes.
Hazard pissed all over him in the Chelsea home game last season. Ran rings around him as if Chester was a 22 year old Paul McShane. It was from that moment Chester really started learning the premiership and improving his game, eventually out shining the at the time magnificent Curtis Davies by the end of the season.
Yeah its his signature move. Love the way he just stands tall and sticks a leg out to stop them dead. He starts counter-attacks by doing it. I remember against Watford in the Championship he did one which led to a goal on the break and while the strikers were celebrating, Koren ran back to congratulate Chester for the amazing tackle rather than join in.
The fact he learnt from that really shows his mettle, getting better as a player by working on his weaknesses. People go on about Robertson being worth loads in the future but what about Chester too, credit where it's due, was Nigel Pearson who got him in
Just wonder, if in his long-term planning, Steve Bruce is well aware that the club may not be able to resist a substantial bid from a top club in the not too distant future if Chester continues to progress and make the headlines as he is doing?
Nothing will ever better the Moore on Pele tackle. Perfection for sure. But James Chester has come a long way under Steve Bruce. Dont see the clubs who can afford Chester going British anytime soon. Am just glad that Chester went with Wales as he should have a long career with them. Unlike England.
Especially not a British player they probably see as being too short for a CB, he would do very well in Spanish football IMO
