If a player is ****e it isn't really his fault if he is at least trying, it probably just means he is a bad signing and out of his depth.

If a player is a lazy coward who hides behind every excuse a footballer can have it is his fault.

Rodwell deserves every bucket of ****e thrown at him. He has let every single person down who has trusted him since he left Everton, who knew what they were doing when they got rid.

That's your legacy Mr Rodwell, that's what you can remember. You were a con man who got away with it.

Look at it from his point of view.

An early developer, he looked like he had a stella career ahead,
Then, after this brilliant start, it all just ran out of him.

In any other job he would have looked at re-training for a more suitable way of earning his living.
But he WAS a Footballer.
For the next six (?) years Clubs kept on offering him 'loadsamoney'.
Perhaps he genuinely though it would all come back to him with a new challenge.

In reality he settled for a comfortable life.
After all it wasn't HIS fault that these Clubs gave him the contracts.

Footballers are regularly told that theirs is a short career and that they need to take advantage and make the money while they can.

IF EVER THERE WAS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW THIS COULD BE DONE, THIS IS IT.
I can not think of a better example of 'laughing all the way to the bank'.

It's the idiots that gave him the contracts that are to blame, rather than him for taking full advantage of their stupidity.

you are 100% correct sir, how many of us would turn down the sort of offers that he had, knowing it is almost impossible to be sacked?

on the other hand, he was built up to be englands next major player and he must have had 'something' for city to spend on him so the very least anyone should and could have expected was that he would give his all when on the pitch, unfortunately i could never see why the pundits raved about him and it turned out i was correct, a complete coward on the pitch, no interest in those paying his wages would 'hide in plain sight' choosing the worst position to get a pass and quite regularly would get himself booked early so he could avoid contact the rest of the game, he also wanted away a lot sooner (or maybe he lied about that) so surely with his ambition and skill set, he would/could have arranged a 'not so grand' pay off (as he is rich enough anyway) in order to get his career back on track...yet he is still doing exactly the same.

I do remember getting a hammering from Sheff Utd fans on twitter when he signed for them, being told he was a scapegoat at Sunderland, that he was only **** because we were ****, and that Chris WIlder will sort him out.
Yeah I got the same! Also got told how good a footballer he obviously is by a number of them! Told them they’ll change their minds but gave up trying to tell them in the end

Didn't he refuse to play for us any more because he was being played in midfield and he reckoned he was being played out of position, wanting to be a defender?

Compare his attitude with 09 who would probably even turn out between the sticks if he was ever asked.

I can't say that 09 is anywhere near as talented as Rodders was (to be honest, I can't remember seeing Rodwell play well, but City must have seen something there at some point) but I know that I would rather have 09 in my squad than Mr Hide!
Absolutely spot on. He’d play today if the gaffer said we were short of a keeper and he’s recovering from a dislocated shoulder!!

It's entirely his fault that he was/is a lazy bastard, and a parasite, that took advantage of these idiots, without a care for us fans, though :emoticon-0183-swear
Or he was peddled by City and soon realised what a bunch of mugs we were and took advantage, bit of blame on both sides?

Sheff Utd fans don't seem to know where he is. He's registered and nobody knows if he's injured. But recently they've not even named a full subs bench and he's not even been on there.

Sound familiar?

One can only imagine there is lots going on with him that we aren't privy to.

I'd start by looking in Meadowhall shopping centre, personally. If its closed because of the lockdown he's probably stuck in there. And his lack of self awareness probably means he hadn't noticed.

lee might sign him in the summer, the way this frigging club is run i would not be surprised, we a big club ? who said that ? joke.

Not even getting onto the subs bench when they have empty seats

As I just posted in the WIlder thread - recently WIlder said that Rodwell injured himself at home slipping and falling. He's getting back to fitness but is unable to play U23 or behind closed doors games, so it's difficult to get him fit.

Sounds like his contract flat out refuses to play in reserve games.

In the years to come I wonder if Rodwell will be an example of a mental condition that’s not yet understood.

I was reading about Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool. Insisting that he was still a great player, refusing to play for daft reasons, bizarre injuries etc.

Sturridge was a better player but I think Rodwell was more mentally affected.

You have to wonder if there is something like that to it. Surely every player wants to play?
If there isn't some kind of mental problem, I can only imagine that he's a modern day Carlos Kaiser- except, unlike Kaiser, Rodwell has shown that he can play if he wants to. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Kaiser_(footballer)

Just spoke to a Man City supporting mate about this. He says it was the same there but much less profile as he wasn't getting in team anyway. But there were long periods where he wasn't available for selection but with no injury discussed or known about. And more than one occasion where he declared himself to be injured but physios / doctors reported nothing wrong with him.

Feels to me like there is a mental issue there and instead of getting him help people have been too reluctant to call it out.

So why did we buy him?

We didn't look into those things back then. Hopefully the new regime will look into players attitudes and noticd this type of thing.

He is a joke of a lad. Happy to turn up to training and call that his job. No intention of being in the team come matchday.
