Ah yes Page, the Carling Cup we won sandwiched in between four league titles, a personal favourite of mine.

Or put into perspective it was the 'only' trophy United won that particular season, and as the pic shows the United players revelled in the glory of being 'Carling Cup Champions' 2010.

No, putting it into pespective would be that they celebrated winning a trophy and ulitmately finished second in the league after having won it for the previous three years and then went on to win it again the following year.

You won the Carling Cup while finishing eight in the league having won **** all for six years previous yet think you're suddenly made of cheese.

    THAT is perspective.

Nope,we won a trophy last season that United thought worthy of celebrating winning two seasons previously.

Its either worth celebrating when won or not.

  7. Twenty six years since Fergie took over and you're still chasing... 41 vs 38 <ok>

The Carling Cup is always worth winning and celebrating.

Bragging about it like Baz as if it suddenly makes you good however is pityful. It doesn't, it makes you the eight place in the league who won the Carling cup by beating a championship side on penalties.

    Like YOU said, perspective.

    Night.

Why does this stoic defence by the Mancs sound familiar? Oh yes I know why - we've heard it all before because we said it first! <laugh>

Now I wonder just how long it will take United's decline to lead then to the Championship?

Na I reckon United will come very close to winning again, if not winning.

It's very hard to see when an era is coming to an end. It gives me no delight - even if I do enjoy taking the rise out of the Mancs. But success is cyclical and United's cycle is coming to an end. Even though they will say we have been predicting it for years it is no less true.

Na Baz; it's a great line but it's not true. Their fans, real fans have had the lean years & are enjoying the good ones now.

It may taste bitter but SAF is their Paisley. Until he's gone they'll always compete. I hate the bast*rd simply because he would rather skin himself with a blunt BIC razor than lose. Obviously doesn't mean he wins just because he says so but....

Embrace your enemy to beat him. Denying him his abilities is weakness.

    And he's old....tick tick tick

And that actually sounded so bitter! And I honestly meant it as a compliment.

Interesting: you honestly think he'll leave because of a demise rather than the demise because he's left?

He's gone past a couple of those predicted demises? has he not?

Whilst you raise some good points:

Da Gea - I see as now settled and playing well
Evra - Got a few years left yet
Rio - If fit is still good
Jones - Very good. Gaining experience
Smalling - Verg good, gaining more experience.
Vidic - Not sure on fitness.
Rafael - Yeah he is average
Nani - Will stay. Very good player
Giggs - I agree this year probably be his last. Novelty.
Scholes - Should be okay for 1 more. Played excellent last year
Carrick - Don't like him but he doesn't lose the ball. Good player.
Cleaverley - Set for a big season replacing ginger
Young - Excellent at United, althought an absolute turd of a man.
    Rooney - Agreed excellent.
Wellbeck - Will either kick on or will be anonomous.

You're write in that quite a few are coming to the end. United do have some great players and young ones coming through though.

Compared to City they do need a few more though, especially with Scholes and likely Giggs going.

frank, I can only point to 'soft' identifiers that the times for United are changing. The old sureties are no longer there and the ability for Ferguson to influence matters (that's not meant in a bad way) is waning.

I do feel for the United supporters - there's nothing they can do about it. The club themselves will try and stave it off. However, I feel sure that circumstances will combine in such a way that all their efforts will prove relatively fruitless. It will be interesting to see if Ferguson is as wise as Paisley was in deciding when the time is right to step down. As much as I disrespect him as a man, I would not like to see him jeopardise his health by trying to struggle on.

Dave: it's why it's the ultimate dance to be poncey about it. They go to the wilderness, we crow. We go to the wilderness, they crow. But that's over.

I think the time of one team dominating has been over for ten years: it's just that they have been still competing at the end of their dominance. And I honestly believe they will continue to compete even after Fergie. But it as we know could go horribly wrong.

If we can accept that dominance is a thing of the past; maybe players coming to us won't have the gorilla on the back.

Can I honestly ask: the way this league might go would you rather have the numbers in a rubbish league I.e win 6 out of 10 with no comp. or 2 out of ten with 7 teams good enough to win the league over that time?

Much as I'd enjoy it, I can't see Utd failing spectacularly just yet.
Their team isn't that great compared to recent years, but they still only lost by goal difference and how often does a team get 89 points and not win? They were a midge's dick from 20.
Silly to write them off just yet.

Just off to disinfect my keyboard after writing that.

frank, I would welcome a situation in the league whereby we have 6 or even 7 sides who are all competing for the top spot with all but the bottom 3 having the ability to beat the rest on any given day.

Let me make it clear. I am not predicting that United's decline will be either matched by a resurgence of Liverpool dominance or that they will no longer be a force to be reckoned with.
