Ah stats! Aren't they great
Point out where I said he was? I have never once said he's the man to "do what's required" - I'm saying I don't know having not seen ANYTHING of this football or games - but using "history shows a win percentage of" is utter rubbish - does that mean his win percentage will be the same with us? Allardyce had a win percentage of 30% with us I believe - a nlot would have him back in a heartbeat (not me mind) My "attack" is more based on the fact that Parkinson, who may or may not get the job, hasn't been announced and he's already in for an awful lot of stick from those not willing to give him a chance.
As I said, what if Stendel comes in, who seems to be the overwhelming fans favourite, and is awful? ships 3 or 4 every game and loses? Then what? The chairman does what the fans want, the manager the fans wanted doesn't work? Where does the blame lay at that point? The players? Who weren't to blame for the Jack Ross times?
Mate as I said I'm not expecting 'silky football' and my concerns are about his underwhelming record in all three lower leagues.
Three midtable seasons in L1 with Colchester followed by a promotion and a disastrous half season with Hull in the Championship.
The second half of the season relegating Charlton.
Two seasons in L1 with Charlton without promotion ending in a sacking.
Five seasons with Bradford taking them from L2 to L1 via the playoffs befot quitting for Bolton.
Then promoting Bolton to the Championship, and two relegation battles ending in relegation.
I'm not saying that he didn't have to fire fight at some of those clubs, I'm not saying he didn't achieve some difficult promotions and a league cup final on a shoe string.
But he's managed clubs without much expectations and quite rightly had success at the ones where he was given time and stability.
I'll back him if he comes, but we need promotion this season, and if Phil Parkinson long balls his way out of this league landing every second Sunderland touch on the head of Charlie Wyke I'll think:
"Fantastic! Needs must! We had to play this way to get out of L1".
Is we sign Ainsworth and our players connive and sh*thouse us out of the league by falling down in and around the box for free kicks and penalties from the training ground I'll go:
"Well, it wasn't that bad, and all the other teams are defensive as f*ck sh*thouses against us and they got a taste of their own medicine".
I'm a SAFC fan and I can be as 'one eyed' as Arsene Wenger when it comes to my club, but I don't see PP as the bloke to get us out of this league this season.
And yes, as much as you deride them, I don't think his overall stats point to a bloke who can quickly galvanise a team and get us the 70 points we need.
