Utter tosh and nonsense this ^^^^^^^^ Prozzy will be playing FACT

When we got into the Premier league in 2008 I thought that was the pinnacle we could reach.
But to get back in Prem,FA Cup final plus the UEFA Cup/Europa is simply pinch yourself time.
Not sure which one I'm looking forward to more.

When I first started watching City full time in '73 teams like L***s Spurs and West Ham were rampaging around Europe winning the Fairs Cup and when Liverpool and Forest won the European Cup in the late seventies I used to think how good it must be to, firstly get in Division 1, then get to the FA Cup Final and hardest yet get into Europe.

We have done all three one day short of a year, how fantastic has this season been, even getting promoted last year was the most tense ever.

Just seen some potential matches for the Europa League

Italy: Fiorentina, Inter Milan
France: Saint-Etienne
Turkey: Beskitas, Trabzonspor
Germany: Wolfsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach
Scotland: Aberdeen, Motherwell
Denmark: FC Kobenhavn, Brondby IF
Holland: FC Twente, PSV Eindhoven
Spain: Real Sociedad

Surely qualifying for the preliminary stage of much maligned competition because we're playing a team, whose qualified for the champions league, isn't an achievement. Winning the cup outright, however, is.

Should we be celebrating yet? After the dross today as well?

So, Golly, reaching an FA cup final isn't an achievement?

I disagree strongly.

Didn't say that, did I?

If Wigan had held on for 5 minutes in the semi final, we wouldn't have been in Europe without beating them.

We deserve the cup run. Top marks to Brucey & the lads.

Before anything, Hull City getting to an FA Cup Final is a monumental achievement; but I guess all depends on your perspective and the comparative.

If you’re using Hull City history as the comparative then it is truly a massive undisputed achievement. However, if you’re comparing it to another established Premier League club then it’s perhaps it’s not so great.

Personally, I think if you’ve spent most of your City watching life watching a relatively successful Hull City team then the achievement may also not seem that grand; whereas, myself, as a kid I was mocked for supporting City. Throughout our factually worst period in our history, I’d hardly miss a game during the season.

It’s a cliché, but true, back then it was unimaginable.

If you were there in the ‘90s, home and away in our worst ever period, there’s no way you could question this seminal moment.

Yes, but we've got the chance to go win it outright. So let's do that. Sounds like people will settle for second best as long as they get in Europe.

I'd rather have the cup & sod the preliminaries. Then you can enjoy it against the better teams.

I'm loving it, the fact we've got to the FA Cup final. That's miles bigger than a match v some ****e in Eastern Europe.

Any game in genuine European competition for us will be amazing. It's a benchmark reached, or even a monkey off the back to use the hackneyed.

I read a YP article a week or two back talking about us joining a select few other Yorks clubs who have played in Europe: Leeds, Weds and Bratfud.

They included Bratfud because they played in and got knocked out of the (very much maligned) Intertoto cup by virtue of being the only Prem club who applied for a place.

Whereas, win or lose the final, we're in the famous UEFA Cup/ Europa League.

A fact that will imprint upon history a stature worthy of our city and will help the ignorant differentiate us from the chaff that have surrounded us for so much of our history.

Are the preliminaries part of the Europa League proper? Thought they were just qualifiers.

they are pretty much

i suppose it's still europe.. but not the proper competition no

if we do start in the quals, we will get a team we should beat.. but.. it's european experience

Absolutely.

You have to qualify for the qualifiers through cup or league performance, so yes it is a bona fide appearance in the Europa League.

I suppose the ‘qualifying rounds’ are just another name for Round 1/Round 2 etc.

The same way as the FA Cup I suppose. The preliminary/qualifying rounds are still part of the actual competition.

I suppose the ‘proper’ tag (as in FA Cup R1 Proper) is just a way of standardising a particular part of the tournament and preventing it being called Round 6 or whatever.

So should we now keep some of the players we might otherwise have been looking to move on? I'm thinking of Koren in particular and does anyone think Proschwitz might be an asset in Europe?

If the satnav packs up he might help find the way to some of the grounds.

I want the best for City, and since we're in the position to do well, why not take it?

It's been a great season (i can't see Chelsea losing tomorrow, so yes, i'm counting my chickens before they hatch) so let's cap it off in style.

Why the hell would he be? He can't even get onto Barnsley's bench.
