It was the KC v Darlington. I took my old fella which is how I remember it. He's only been the once and collapsed at half time. We were in the East Stand and the sun was red hot that afternoon if you remember. I had to carry him out with help from a couple of stewards and put him in an ambulance. I missed the second half and the goals. 4-0/4-1 from memory ? Thelwell ( the full back from Spurs) scoring on his debut.
It was the first game of the following season , our first full season a t the KC . We beat Darlington and got promoted at the end of the season .

Wasn't that the game when somebody rang Humberside after the game and said it was so good they were going to have a ****. Burnsey was speechless

Would you like to share your favourite Paul Hunter moment with us ?

Probably the late goal v BHA, circa Xmas 92/93.

Clean through with virtually a full half to run, he slotted it in. 1-0 win and Dolan proclaimed a play-off charge in the HDM.

Think we stayed up by a point that season.

Also, Man City game you mention was Keith Edwards ( I think). Hunter signed a year or so after that game.

It probably is absolute bollocks Driff, however whilst driving the club spiraling downwards I'll give a degree of credit (not much) for at least ensuring we are not facing administration has we have in the past while revenue streams collapse. This of course is alongside my expectation that the Allams do want out and see now as being the time to do it before the value halves at best over the next 6 months. To stay around for another 12 months say may cost the Allams the best part of c£30m and I don't see them potentially writing that off irrespective of whatever tax benefits it may give them in the bigger scheme of Allamhouse annual accounts.

I'm saying no more as I definitely am no supporter of them!!
tax tail shouldn't wag the business dog. they have to lose money to get a small percentage reduction in group tax

I know someone who posts on here being credited in that book. As well as a couple more including that fanatic from round my way who tragically died during our second season in the PL who you bumped into a few times around the country in the days when only a handful were going to away games
On the other hand I can think of some not mentioned...
I know him well. Isn't he number 12 in the list ? He is also credited by Chris Elton is his second book and thanked for his contributions.

I know. I was flushing out those who knew and those who pretend. I also heard that the Dol*n season you refer to the players were actually told to 'take their foot off the gas' mid season as the club didn't want to go up. Odd I know but odder things have happened at Hull City.

Ah the old didn't want to go up rumour. First heard it mid sixties with the variations, Needler didn't want to pay the wages, the players themselves didn't want promotion, and the Watch Committee didn't want it because of the cost of policing games.

Some of the players in that era preferred to be "big fish" in a little pond, rather than the reverse. The ownership essentially had the same view as it was a riskier business case to be in the top flight...the TV money didn't exist, parachute payments were a dream etc etc. European competition places were harder to achieve & less lucrative than today. Plus, only 2 teams were promoted - the 3rd place playoff idea hadn't come into existence yet.

I know and the 'They don't want First Division football here, it'll cost too much....' one. Coupled with the council leaders not wanting a car factory here because it would push wages up for everyone else. All total bollocks but we all believed it at the time or perhaps that was the mindset then ?

Corrected for you - Bruce put himself and his son first - admiral as a father but ****ing disgraceful as a football manager - he spent £40 million and got us relegated ,- from that moment the rot started ,- then he left and was **** at Villa - as for his son absolutely noone thinks he's good enough for a game - Brucie ****ed up Europe and our chances of staying in the Prem because he chose to give his son game time and an extended contract - the guys almost as big a **** as Ehab
His son actually made very few mistakes and had some outstanding games (cup final, Liverpool at home when he had Suarez in his pocket. So long as his wages were at the level of a 4th or 5th choice squad player and Bruce felt he could manage that situation, I had no problem whatsoever with him been with us.
Incidentally Sean Dyche approached the Europa league exactly the same way this season ( I've squad rotation) even though they had a far stronger squad than we did. Gues what, they didn't progress very far by which time Burnley had were bottom. They were good recover, unlike us. I never noticed anyone slaughtering him.

There was no luck involved. Hull City offered more money. That's not luck. Similar to when we signed Bowen from Hereford, because we offered more money then anyone else. That wasn't luck either. Ditto Clucas and Maguire. We did rescue Robertson from part time football in Scotland and gave him a chance on the big stage.
How many of those players mentioned were signed by Bruce when 'throwing money away'? He made a ****ing fortune in transfer dealings. Unfortunately the Allams were the main benefactors. Maybe Assam recognised this while his son could only see the short term picture.

Remember the first time I saw Hunter play....and I swear he was wearing lead boots. His chunky frame and absence of pace was reminiscent of Gareth Roberts (google him, OLM) at pre-season fitness levels.

Decent lad but no greyhound.

He is going to be floundering if he googles Gareth Roberts as it was Garreth Roberts.<laugh> Garreth's aunty used to work in the office where I worked. He was a good servant of the club. Decent bloke when I spoke to him when he popped in to see her.

First time I saw him, think it was his debut, night match v Stoke. He came on, got the ball, back-to-goal about 25 yards out - chested it, hooked it behind him then turned and half volleyed the ball at goal. Keeper saved.

Thought he looked ace.

Sadly, from that game on, he somewhat slipped from that classification in my mind.

Surely it's 'auntie'?
