As I recall, it was those of us who were reactionary, fickle and impatient who were jumped on long before the happy clapping repostes became common place! And anti-hootun as I might have been Supers is/was also one of my favourite posters. I think it is you here who might be trying to generalize a little too much. And again there is more than a hint of blame, rather than cure/reconcile about your post, perhaps the sort of thing that adds to some posters consternation? Especially if they think it could be a dig at them?
Whilst there will always be infighting when we are not doing so well, the political thread does seem to have opened some wounds, I don't think many from the Hootun saga. Political allegiences have not directly aligned with inners and outers, but Politics has proved divisive, but I don't know why anyone would leave over any of it, just don't read it, reply to it or worse get in a slagging match if it is going to upset you?
But as is said some are more thin skinned than others (I am unfortunately rather thick skinned especially around my middle!) and I don't mean to insult anyone by that expression, some people are just more sensitive this can be a product of upbringing, bullying or just the way they are.
I think people have just got bored of the infighting and to an extent I don't blame them. I like the political thread when it is about debate but all to often it has gotten personal.

As one on here that goes from posting to lurking regularly it's got nothing to do with being thin skinned. It's just that life is too short. I come on here partly to keep myself updated with what's going on with NCFC and partly to have a grown up discussion about mine and others views on my team. If the discussion starts to become personal or juvenile I just can't be bother, after all it's not like anything anyone says on here (including myself) matters in the real world.

Personally I don't get offended as much as exasperated when two (seemingly) adult members of the forum) have a public catfight over what is often a trivial nuance in one of their posts. Different views are necessary to make the forum work otherwise really what is the point? I don't have an issue with any of the political or other off-topic threads as I am interested to hear the thoughts of a number of the posters on here who can make insightful points despite being diametrically opposed to one and other or indeed my own thoughts and opinions. Debate is healthy and as long as people respect each other and accept that the other person has a right to their view however wrong you may feel it then long may the political threads continue. At the end of the day if you don't like the O/T threads vote with your mouse and just don't bother reading them.

My comments weren't just in relation to O/T threads, but your right Norfolkbhoy as members of the forum we can all vote with our mouse's and either not read threads or read and not post. But just because members level of engagement varies I don't think it's necessarily got anything to do with how thick their skin is. It's certainly not in my case. Things that really turned me off are when discussions get personal and / or juvenile. It's also annoying when posters deliberately mis-quote other posters or try to misrepresent their views to others and tell me I hold a particular position when it's quiet clear I don't. I'm certainly not a member of this form to have playground level arguments and try, although I'm not always successful, to revert to lurking when this happens.. I think KIO was suggesting over the last year or so the number of posters contributing to this forum has reduced and he thinks this may be due to the 'why you must vote Tory thread'. I tend to agree that the level of respect given to posters and the quality of the debate has declined, but I'm not convinced it is just down to the one post.

Tell me about it, there aren't too many things that annoy me more than when that happens - does my head in I can assure you!
Also, as I've said a few times on here I just don't get how anything on here can be taken "personally". I for one don't know any of you on here, I know very, very few real names and apart from CardinalCanary (who I bumped into after the West Ham game as he saw my name on the back of my shirt - top fella!) I don't even know what any of you look like so for anyone to label anything on here as being of a "personal" nature I just don't get.
 
I agree I don't see how anyone can take anything on here personally. However it does turn me off when posts become personal. What I mean by that is when one posters post focuses on on another poster rather than the subject being discussed.

I think that is absolutely correct. I am sure that I would enjoy a pint with KIO ur Kemp, or even JWM (Shurely shome mishtake Ed.) far more than with someone who shares my mildly left wing Blairite perspective. I have maybe been more responsible than most for keeping Dave's thread going. Although I would say that recently it's been more economics than politics. I have a theory that the lack of the prediction league is responsible for the drop off in traffic. It ensured that 20 or so logged on regularly to take part and they contributed to other threads on the way through. I also note that the General Comment forum is much diminished.

Has there been a reduction in Social Media traffic generally? I don't know, I am just asking and that in part could have an impact in here. Many topics have been covered and there is a limit as to what one can debate or have a view on.

Pay attention chap, all the prediction leagues are still going strong - which reminds me I've not set this weekend's ones up yet, will get onto that pronto <ok>
 
I run the score predictions one and Rick does the line-ups, we've kinda taken half of rbf's workload each and run them as two separate competitions. They are both near the top of the forum every week from about Thursday onwards, not sure why you aren't seeing them?

Resurgam has also been running a premier league prediction league where you have to bet an imaginary fiver on a four-fold acca each week. He's recently had to give that one up, but I've said I'll take it on so I'll get that one up this morning as well.
