In very simple terms yes, but in actual terms as a business We are in a better financial position then as we are in absolutely no danger of going down the route of what was happening when the Allams took over. I'd certainly take our position now Vs the one then. What about you?
I would take the current overall situation as well, shame it could, and should have been significantly better as of today

Sunderland did warn us when SB joined that his style was to start well, get the confidence of the board to let him spend loads of money, then go downhill from there.

Bruce had the rug pulled at Sunderland too. Players getting sold he didn't want to loose.

You're right, and apols to Chazz, I got an extra season in there somehow. However the original Sunderland prediction, start well, spend loads, end badly was accurate for SB personally.
Spend loads?? We had one of the bottom three budgets in the PL
So that’s another one knocked down
Sir Steve’s time at Sunderland was nothing like here.
Who knows who else stan ternent could have unearthed for us eh.

It doesn't matter how big the budget was compared to others in the PL. He still spent a lot in transfers and loans to try and keep us in the PL first time, then to get us back up the following season. He failed to keep us up, then succeeded in getting us back. But it didn't last.

Funny thing is I quite liked Steve Bruce, he gave us some great times, but I don't think he's a top manager for the long term. His managerial record speaks for itself, lots of highs, lots of acrimonious departures, no lasting legacy.

He ain't Mourinho, klopp or Guardiola, but he'll consistently perform to his budget, which is more than many and a reason he's had the career he's had in the top 2 divisions. He's still the most successful manager we've ever had.

And yeah, budget is pretty much key to success in modern football. Barking up the wrong tree there.

Let's keep an eye on how £40m Joelinton fares at Newcastle.

Why would I care
I just look at Andy Robertson or Harry maguire and think ye they were ours picked up for a song or in your eyes extravagantly and paid a lot of money so brucey failed

They were both success stories obviously, there were plenty that weren't, some were bought, some free, but they all needed paying. Anyway, my original post said 'Sunderland did warn us when SB joined that his style was to start well, get the confidence of the board to let him spend loads of money, then go downhill from there'.

Well, he did start well, he did spend a lot of money, and he ended up falling out with the vice-chairman and leaving. If that's not downhill I don't know what is. Yes he had some good times along the way but it ended badly, for him.

And I’ll say again he didn’t he want led Andre gray and ehab stopped it
Bought for five million and fired Burnley to the title and sold for 20 million
Ye master stroke by ehab and wasteful sir Steve
He spent minuscule amounts compared to rivals
But I’m sure you’ll say compared to Crewe or Accrington he spent a lot
Of course not every signing comes off that’s true of Ferguson mourinho whoever

Yet he's in the premiership and we're in league 1.

Must be terrible for him. Bloke must be devastated.
