"Can't say I have too much sympathy with Italy failing to qualify for the World Cup in Russia - having been watching footie as long as I have, Italy can be pretty fookin' tedious in major tournaments, too often preferring to stifle the opposition rather than outplay them, despite having had incredibly talented players over the years." - FosseFilberto, oblivious to the irony.

When it comes to the above tactics + wearing blue shirts +
having Italian manager ...

Italy are not the most est side ... in the world. Ever.

The only one that surprised people most is ITALY, the only time they failed to qualify was in 1958. Others soldiers go soldiers come:laugh:.
As an Italy supporter I can only say that this has been coming for some time
Another reason to skip the World Cup: we won't be hearing the tuneful anthems of Italy or Chile, but we'll be hearing that funereal dirge about saving queens.
To be fair, with Ventura in charge, we would have been looking at another 1st round exit. This Italian team has been so poor that I can't bring myself to watch them play and i've supported them since the mid 70s.

Who are you good people supporting tonight? Republic or Eriksen's Denmark?

I'm swaying towards our little Elf.
Definitely Denmark. As much as it is a shop window, Eriksen deserves to have his talents on display in a major tournament. Like our England players, he'll probably be home by end June, so gets a break as well.

It's a sad thing to say as a patriot, but the best thing about the international break for me is if all our players come back uninjured.

I agree. Once upon a time I was very proud of our lads at Spurs representing our country. Today........?

I think we have done Southgate a favour by excluding Dele and Kane forcing him to take a chance which has caused him to rethink his strategy and could open up a whole new way to manage his team.
