Just noticed this on the BBC site:

"Per-Mathias Høgmo has been forced to make four changes to his Norway squad for qualifiers against Bulgaria and Croatia. Rosenborg midfielders Pål André Helland and Ole Selnæs have withdrawn with hip injuries, while forwards Joshua King (thigh) and Adama Diomande (head) also miss out."

Anyone know how serious this injury is, or is it a euphamism for "his head's all over the place because he's in transfer negotiations" ?

We had Alan Jarvis in our 65-66 promotion season, but I think his first cap came early in the 66-67 season when we were in the old 2nd division. His performances in our promotion season were what earned him his few caps.

Sadly, it was reported late last year that he is suffering from a formj of brain damage, thought to be possibly caused from heading footballs, similar to what is suspected to have happened to Jeff Astle.

Norman wasn't capped until after our second promotion, likewise Chester after our 2013 promotion. So we've had plenty of promotions without Welsh internationals, just not without Welsh players capped or uncapped.

Nick Deacy left us just before our promotion season. I suspect that was no coincidence (ie he was crap).

seems that despite it being mentioned on the unofficial hull city twitter site that he had pulled out of the Uruguayan squad, it turned out to be bollox and he is off on his jolly travels
 
Iceland have been improving for a few years, and now they've really put the cat among the pigeons. They're as good as in now, and the Dutch will almost certainly have to go through a playoff. The consolation for them is the competition in the playoffs won't be top-class.

Credit to Wales, who are really getting it done, meanwhile. "Now we are seeing the greatest ever player to put on the red shirt of Wales," says that clownish show-pony Robbie Savage of Gareth Bale. How does that remark go down with those of you who are old enough to have seen John Charles?

The Dutch are bloody lucky they're not down in fourth place behind Turkey, too. The Turks conceded an Injury-time equaliser at home to Latvia.

Turkey v Netherlands on Sunday. The Dutch can't afford to lose that one. It's almost impossible for a leading nation to fail to qualify with 23 spots available, but they're giving it quite a go...

Not too many players better than him in the whole history of the game. It's a shame he became injured at the '58 World Cup - with him playing they may well have beaten Brazil in the QF (Brazil won 1-0).
Not too many games televised in that WC, so I never got to see him perform on telly. When I lived in Leeds between 64-72, during the Revie era, all the supporters ever said at the matches I watched at Elland Rd was " Nobody would have beaten us if we'd still got John Charles in this team,". I think they were right.
 
Certainly the impression I get of John Charles is that he's probably considered the second best player from the UK ever (unless Moore or Charlton can challenge him). Seems way too soon to say Bale is Wales's best ever.

Has Wales got better or the fact there are so many **** teams they just happen to have got lucky & qualify, go back to Rush, Saunders, Southall, Speed & Giggs, that's just off the top of my head. They were far superior to these Welsh players, I'd even go as far as saying Southall was probably the best keeper in the UK back then, possibly one of the best I've ever seen in the time I've been watching football.
