Plonker he most definately was but he scored one of the best goals I've seen at St Mary's. I swear that if our seats were nearer the playing area, I would have done a Chilco (invaded the pitch). I was up out my chair and down a couple of steps before I remembered how old I was.

Yep, fantastic goal, he managed to find the only place in the goal he could possibly score from that position, the imagination to picture it and the execution was sublime...the celebration was pure Alan Partridge though...:emoticon-0111-blush

One of my favourite memories is the FA Cup replay v Sheffield Wednesday in 1984 at The Dell. A Steve Williams screamer in a 5-1 win after they battered us 0-0 in the first game!

Another one of my top away days, but just for the coach trip, the South Yorkshire Coppers were tw@s and like you say, we were lucky to escape with the draw.

One of my proudest moments as a Saints fan and a day that will live with me forever.

The 20/30 minutes following that goal is probably the best atmosphere I've been involved with, the whole end was absolutely rocking.

What a brilliant day that was, great opening day game to have after promotion in a big club at home and the Leeds fans having just finished midtable telling us how we would struggle

Also broke the sky curse if I remember rightly and we came flying out the blocks with Deanos goal and never really looked back all season.

Good times :)

All three goals were class, we certainly hit the ground running that season.

David Connolly was great wasn't he?

I went to the Saints-Pompey game in season 75-76. I don`t recall there being any animosity, but that`s maybe because I was new to the area, and was a neutral at the time. Saints won 2-0, and Pompey got relegated that season, if I remember right.

....fast forward, I was at the last Saints-Pompey game in 2012. The Pompey fans got bussed in and out in a high-security, military-like operation. Shame things have got to that situation.

Wasn't that after a group of them got set upon at some time near six dials and one of their supporters was badly injured after a previous game at ST Mary's??
