Slow to this thread, but have only done this once and could only find this poorly filmed Footage of the game Saints at Leyton Orient in our first season in league one. First time I had heard the Lambert song(who of course scored the crucial goal for saints) I remember deciding to go on the day of the game(one of the pluses of league one football) which is why I was in the home end. We equalized late in the match and a few braver saints fans in the home sections ran on to the pitch and jumped into the away stand(hence the police/stewards present at the away end in the video) I decided to admonish the orient defense with the chap sat next to me to maintain cover. Saints away fans were great and if you see most of your matches at home(like me) then it’s nice to see that saints away following is just as loud and passionate as any visitors to St Mary’s.
I suspect we’ve had a thread discussing the best goal at St Mary’s before, but it’s weird that the best goals in recent seasons have been from flops in Osvaldo, Martina & Boufal. In fact plenty of players over the years will be remembered for a particular moment ahead of largely forgettable saints careers. Jonathan Forte’s double, Rory Delaps acrobatic volley spring to mind
Guly getting his goal for us in his last season (our first PL one) courtesy of a pen v Yeovil in the FA Cup: Brilliant moment for him and the fans, I wasn't there sadly but I seem to remember there being a bit of a disagreement over the pen with Jrod(?) wanting to take it until one of Morgan or Jose had a word with him. Can anyone who was there or who has a better memory confirm? We want our Guly back, we want our Guly back Miss that team so much
Nil points for artistic impression on that volley. We had a relatively easy run to the final(on paper) that season, but our 3rd round win against Spurs was so dominate that we probably deserved it Highlights don’t actually capture how good a display it was and easily my favourite match in the Strachan era Bonus league game chucked in the video package
I was there, Jay Rod was definitely going to take it but José had a word and Jay was fine about it as I recall. Sam G got our other goal that day, let it not be forgotten! And it was our second year back in the PL btw!
