So this might bomb or it might be decent so we'll see.

I thought as things are a bit **** at present and most people are a bit down about something with the club/football we could use the international break to forget about it and remember some better times.

So simply post your memories of some good games/moments you've seen over the years and if it's recent a youtube clip too. Let's try stay clear of the too
obvious ones for now as well.

I'll start with the Norwich game in the JPT that we won on penalties, ****ing freezing if I remember correctly and probably no more 12/13k or so in the ground.

Wayne Thomas <diva> scored the winning penalty after Papa Waigo equalised (undeservedly iirc) in the last minute.

Has a loan player ever achieved cult status like Papa? :emoticon-0152-heart

Can't imagine what that was like when they came out in a different kit, must have been totally bizzare <laugh>

Out of interest what month was that? No goals from open play prior to that apparently.

1976.......tears flowing down my cheeks when Bobby stokes scored in the cup final. Have a picture of him scoring the goal in my study.........The one and only year I was able to go to all the FA cup games. Home and away.

Surely we scored from open play before that? <yikes>

When did Merrington come in, maybe it was since that.

Amidst rumours of lack of support from the board, Alan Ball was lured to Manchester City in the summer of 1995 and Southampton turned to long-serving coach David Merrington to take charge of the team in 1995–96. Southampton finished 17th with 38 league points, avoiding relegation on goal difference. Two important wins during the final weeks of the season did much to ensure that Saints achieved Premiership survival and relegating Manchester City. First came a 3–1 home win over eventual double winners Manchester United, then came a 1–0 away win over relegated Bolton Wanderers. Despite achieving survival, Merrington was then sacked as manager after just one season and replaced by Graeme Souness, who had won silverware earlier in his managerial career with Rangers and Liverpool.

Can't find anything about OpenPlay goals .....but Le Tiss and Shipperly were joint league goalscorers on 7.

I'll check again in a minute but I'm sure the commentator mentioned it, might have been a player.

Sitting in the home end with my brother when we beat Millwall 3-2 at the Den. When Lambert scored the winning penalty I had split emotions having been going to the den since a young lad. Everyone around me was going mental anyway so I didn’t stand out a great deal <laugh> .

My first ever away game was certainly memorable but it was not all good. It was the infamous 3rd round FA Cup 2-0 defeat at the old Bristol Rovers' Eastville Stadium in 1978.
The coach trip to Bristol was amazing and I was 16 and went with a group of mates from school (no parents!). Stopping at Warminster and a Service Station was mayhem as there was an estimated 10,000 Saints fans who made the 70 mile journey that day.
It was one of the worst conditions I've ever seen at a football match and you had to walk over a sea of mud just to get into the ground.
As you can see from the following videos, the match did not go well and a quite a few of the Saints end decided that it would be a good idea to try and invade the pitch to get the match abandoned!
Needless to say that it was unsuccessful but the experience has left an indelible mark on my memory...<laugh>

Never done home end for an away game, not sure if I'd want to either. Certainly wouldn't have been able to control myself in that game!
