    Why?

    It's a game of football, not a D-Day memorial.

I see it more along the lines of we didn't like the man in a raincoat being our manager and I would not want Wenger or Arteta at Spurs. The Germans are probably our greatest international rivals.

International rivalry. Germany are our biggest rivals.

Growing up I remember seeing England knocked out of multiple major tournaments by the Germans. Nothing against Tuchel personally (previously said I’d take him at Spurs) but as England manager it’s a no no imo.

So by definition, you'd never accept a former manager of Arsenal or Chelsea as Spurs manager, regardless of how successful and what great great guys they were?
Not sure that sense of nationalism holds any substance these days. These are just international business executives plying their trade on a global market.
Just so happens that the best options for England at the moment appear to be German. (Tuchel / Klopp?). Next year they could be Dutch, Spanish or Argentine.

**Sorry just reread your post. You wouldn't apply same principles to Spurs :emoticon-0148-yes:

A rivalry requires both sides to consider each other rivals

Germany do not consider England their rivals, as their rivalry is with the Dutch

England are the West Scam of international football

Seems like we’ve gone for a more pragmatic approach again, Tuchel’s an excellent tactician and he’s mixed up his football over the years but he does have history of rubbing people up the wrong way. Generally done excellent wherever he’s managed, last season at Bayern was more down to Alonso and Leverkusen being superb than him not doing a good enough job I’d say but at Bayern if you don’t win the league you’ll always be negatively viewed.

I do share some of King’s views in that having a Gerry in charge feels a bit “eurgh” but ultimately no one will care if he brings success to the country and he’s a manager that could potentially do that if the players buy into him.

As long as he has the balls to play people in their actual positions and not shoehorn them into the left wing in order to get them in the team. He seems the sort of person that might. On the other hand, managers couldn't do their job without a big ego. And such egos all seem tempted to think "that previous manager couldn't fit X and X into the same team, but as I'm a better manager I can". I think either outcome is possible.

Of course if he wins the World Cup then his nationality won’t matter one bit and I’ll be cheering for him as much as anyone.

Just feels very weird that England have a German manager.

Steven Caulker captained Sierra Leone to a 1-0 victory against Ivory Coast yesterday.
They limited their opponents to a single off-target shot, which is pretty incredible.
The reverse fixture was last Friday and the teams were level at the break, but the Ivorians wet on to win 4-1.
    Great reaction. <ok>

Malawi are not fans of Sarr, apparently. Senegal went on to win with a 96th minute free-kick and qualify for the AFCON finals.
