I don't really agree. They can both be coached for sure, but with very different methods. If I take rowing as an example, then the ability to stay in time is definitely a technical skill that contributes to effective teamwork. But the thing I mean is more like the mindset or team spirit mentioned above. In a rowing eight the strongest rowers are usually in the middle of the boat and the technically best in the stroke and seven seats, which inevitably means the weakest are at the front end. I've definitely seen examples where the weakest rowers perform poorly because of a blame culture from their team-mates.
I think I'd agree with this. West Brom aren't great technically, but their teamwork is superb, generally.
In Spurs I trust for the game against Scotland. Once that job is done, Southgate should have the decency to have NONE of them involved in the game against France.
Where is the lasagna chef when you need him? Surely Frazer bloody Campbell could do a decent job for England against Scotland.
I have two suggestions for Uruguay 1.) Play that defender up front ii.) Make sure he's facing the other way
Montevideo does have a pretty large German population, who mainly emigrated there in the 1940s - although for the crew of the Graf Spee, it was a pretty short swim...
In an ideal eight, I think you have four engines and four excellent rowers who are not as heavy. Then you can have your best two rowers at stroke and seven, and your next best at bow and (not so importantly) 2. The chances of it happening to work out that way are very slim, so you will need to trade off balance with the importance of having your best rowers either set the stroke or lead the way through the wind and current. We had a really good, relatively small bow who I remember vividly.
Good to see Kyle Walker-Peters singing the national anthem. Maitland-Niles looked like he had never heard it before and was standing in an identification line-up. Probably just practicing for later in his Gooners career.
Pisses about with the ball at the back? Enjoys gifting goals to underdog opposition? Gets the best out of Eriksen? Sounds like Spurs player to me.
Yes - but the best engineered crew will swiftly turn to **** if the strong guys don't think the smaller guys skills are up to it, or the good technical rowers blame the strong guys for the boat not sitting up straight or the poor sod who was the last to be selected and is clearly the weakest gets the blame for everything.
England U20s beat their Italian counterparts 3-1, having gone down 1-0 early on. An excitable French commentator will talk you through the goals: They face Venezuela in the final, who overcame Uruguay on penalties. It was the third successive time that they've had to play extra-time in this tournament:
Rowing is a sport where you sit down and go backwards, while one little guy tells eight big guys exactly what to do and when. I always thought his real purpose is to make the big guys put aside their petty differences in favor of mutually loathing him. Note that the motivation here is that if they win something they all get to throw him into the drink.
