The numbers worry me. Not just for Cardiff but for football in general. We paid more for Murphy than I'd have liked but he's had a few seasons in the EFL and looks ok. I see Forrest have just spent £15M on a 21 year old with 8 1st team games under his belt and none in England. Time will tell if Murphy was a fair deal or overpriced. As an aside, can you keep your hands off Grucik? We'd like him back next season.
Plenty of talk of Calum Chambers for c£22m. English and PL experience, but seems like a lot of money for someone who I'm not sure what their best position is (although he is at least 6 foot tall!).
Apparently Newcastle are prepared to take £20m for Mitrovic NOW. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11404485/newcastle-want-20m-for-aleksandar-mitrovic Still find it hard to accept that the guy is only 23, so he fits all the 'analytic' and potential sale value stuff. What's to think about?
Just do it. He's not the perfect player, but £9m gets you Fonte and Kamara was £5m... we need to just spend for Mitrovic.
It's a no-brainer. He's a proven fit with our style, so less of a risk than most big-money strikers, and we'll have to pay that kind of sum for anyone else who might make an impact. Do it.
How do you feel about having to shell out so much just to keep last season's squad together? Its not strengthening, just maintaining. Do you think last years squad could stay in the prem? How much more will you need to spend to strengthen? Its a bit scary being in this league!
We know that these loan players can work in our system, so the only gamble is if they can perform the same in the Premier, with getting in unknown players there's always a possibility they won't fit in or take to long to settle. We haven't got much Premier experience in the squad and need to address that (at what cost ?) and I have my doubts if our passing style will always work against some teams in the Premier. But it's been entertaining football to watch and I like to think we'd give it a go and ruffle a few feathers in the Premier.
Indeed your play was easy on the eye. If you'd started the season like you finished it you'd have walked the league. Fortunately for us we were more consistent over the 46 games. I agree that bring back players that fit your style is the logical answer. My question was around how much you need to spend to keep what you had last season, before you spend a slug more cash on bringing a bit of premier league experience. Fortunately for us, we'll still have the vast majority of the squad that took us up (Grucik was on loan for the second half of the season playing 14 games), so our two signings to date are in addition to what we had last year. On your last point, we'll also be out to ruffle a few feathers. Different style admittedly, same objective. Good luck.
Definitely worrying numbers - Norwich are following that £11m they got for Josh Murphy with £25m for James Maddison. And it won't be us paying. According to The Mirror it's down to Everton, Leicester and inevitably West Ham. Add in the £22m for Chambers and it all kind of supports SupeBri's case.
Having helped them win promotion, Rotherham are keen to get Marek Rodak back next season. Their 'in house blog' is saying negotiations are positive (I'm assuming it would be another loan) http://itsmillerstime.co.uk/an-update-on-rotherhams-pursuit-of-marek-rodak/ please log in to view this image The 21 year old goalie was called up for the main Slovakia side for recent friendlies against World Cup opponents and has clearly got a future ahead of him. Guess the Button situation may have a bearing but, despite rosc's protestations, would not be surprised to see Marek go. Even if only temporarily.
Certainly agreed. Rodak will benefit more from playing 46 games in the Championship next season than he would on our bench in the Premier League. I'd rather not send him back to Rotherham (spending two years at a club increases your desire to move there permanently), but he does need to be playing.
Today's little clutch of rumours where we're mentioned: * Maxime Le Marchand, 28 year old Nice CB or LB. Valued at £2m (L'Equipe and others) * Peter Zulj, 25 year old Sturm Graz midfielder. The Austrian has Champion League experience. Valued at £3.5m (German papers) * Grzegorz Krychowiak, 28 year old PSG midfielder who was on loan to West Brom last season. He's a Polish international. Valued £15m (French papers)
The Mirror are saying that Southampton want to hang on to Matt Targett. please log in to view this image Instead, they say, we are now in for Ludwig Augustinsson of Bremen. However, the 24 year old Swede who was fancied by Liverpool before they ended up signing Andy Robertson won't be committing himself until after the World Cup. He's valued at £7m. please log in to view this image
Of all the in and outs, we, like many others are supposidly interested in everyone listed,. but the 2 reoccuring names are Button to Brighton for 1/2mil + KRULL,this I like, and BRYAN of Bristol city, they aparently want 10m +.MADDISON it appears could go to Southampton £25m,and they want TARGETT back. So .we desperatly need a couple of quality full backs if we are at least trying to consoludate our premier league status All will be known in about 8wks time,as long as its not last minute panic buying of the dross thats left, like what has happened in the past. .
