Rugby imo, the sport itself is bad enough without the patronising fan base and private school boys who can drink 3 pints and sing crap songs. If one of my friends put Rugby on while I was at their house I'd honestly just walk out.
Well I can see the common bit in your point. I have been on forums where there is an introduction forum so it is clearly expected - this one did not appear to have that expectation. Should I wear a tie when I post too or can I continue knackerbare?
There ain't enough foot traffic for an intro thread, it will just become a disused sticky that clogs up pages for people on small older devices.
I don’t even see the need for one personally. If someone wants to write on a bloody Internet forum it’s entirely up the them to do it. Some people are more involved personally on here than others and that’s absolutely fine also. Each to their own and all that.
I just hate stagnant sticky threads. Once there's more than 4 on constantly it just gets on me nervs.
I can't remember starting a thread to introduce myself, I just started posting and naturally started chatting to people that way.
Which is the same as you’d do in a bar or a pub if you were talking to someone. I wouldn’t introduce myself and tell them 5 facts about myself or anything like that. I treat this place like a bit of a cyber pub/bar, so when I’m having a bit craic or debate it’d be similar to having pint with one of you lot.
You obviously don't know many Rugby Players. The old adage that Rugby is a game for gentlemen to behave like hooligans MAY have been true once, but not in my lifetime. However, rule changes and the professional game have meant that the gulf between top level, what you see on TV, and grass roots, what you might see at, say, Ashbrooke, is just as big as it is in football. What we see on TV is often dull. Watching sixteen giants pushing against each other just isn't exciting. But playing the game was, in my experience much more fun than football and that includes what you describe as the three pints in the Clubhouse. To be honest any game where you don't understand the rules or the finer points of the technique is going to be boring.
I don't think what you see on TV these days is dull at all. Elite level rugby is far more entertaining now than it has been for decades. It's certainly not as turgid as it was in the mid 90s. I'd rather watch international rugby union than international football friendlies or even qualifiers. As for the differences between football rugby, and I've played both and regularly attend matches of both, neither is better in my opinion. They are just different. While I've encountered Margot, Giles and Hugo getting the picnic hamper out at Twickenham, I've come across equally twattish characters at football matches. And I've come across good people at both.
I take your point that it has been worse and I speak as someone who used to attend International Games when Clive Rowland played. On long series of kicks to touch. However the game at top level has lost some of it's charm for me. For instance the packs are now so strong that for the sake of safety the scrum half is allowed to put the ball into the second row, or so it seems. While Giles, Margo and Hugo may still be at Twickers the are not seen much around Hawick, Tynedale or Alnwick where I'm assured the game is still played and enjoyed, much as it's always been.
