? tapped up ffs, and you have the nerve to say arrogant post!

2 of them dont fecking get any game time to be made to look ordinary, and Lovren is part of a defence that's a fecking shambles esp with Johnson and Skrtel in it as well, with gerrard protecting it which is another shambles.

The short term implications are financial i.e. the loss of CL income and managerial. The 'player power' worries listed above are really rubbish.

If Liverpool fail this season then what players do we have that will be a magnet for other clubs to want to take? Sterling will not have proved the potential of last year. Sturridge will still probably be considered as being a major injury risk and Coutinho will have been proved to be lacking in stamina. The rest of the side will seen as as 'past their prime' and average squad players.

Could Rodgers survive the critical appraisal? That will probably depend upon how close we are were to 4th spot and how the season panned-out in terms of silverware.

Liverpool definitely won't finish in the top 4. The club should be making plans for that eventuality. That's not to say United will finish in the top 4.

What a silly statement! At this stage in proceedings there is no way that any definitive statements can be made.

Yep, despite looking poor at present there's no way you can rule out a dramatic change in form quite yet.

this is one of shteve's lessy wummy and more sensible statements.

LFC have a low chance of finishing top 4 and there is now probabaly one slot open as arsenal will only need turn up for 3rd and southampton will just need to prove the can sustain this over the next 2 months and not fall away due to squad size and they look like they will run utd for 4th. LFC..... we can't score.. c'mon dave.

Dave, you are the first to say utd are doing x or y and going down but you refuse to see our state of affairs.... yet then you bascially tear our team apart in your next comment. which is it.

Right now, and I love saying this because I'm a blue....the only team who I am pretty much absolutely positive will get top 4 is Chelsea. :p Thats not BECAUSE im a blue its because I genuinely think they are the best team in the league right noe.
City....they have too much quality to drop out, but have had some very bad results recently and look a shadow of the team they were last year. You gotta think they won't drop out though.
Arsenal....I can't see them dropping out either. They can't get results away from home against top 6 teams for toffee, but that means there are 13 other teams they can thrash home and away if they put their minds to it. That should be enough points to see them good in the top 4.

Now that last spot......Southampton look great and have built a sizeable points advantage over the rest of the contenders.....should be interesting

i dont think chelsea have been great either though bodanki, not saying they don't deserve to be top, far from it, as you do, but apart from saints, do they have another gear or can sustain their great start?, the rest have been absolute ****e, utd, liverpool, spurs, arsenal, city, everton, chelsea etc etc.

there is certainly more to come from all of those teams, and i wonder how desperate any of those teams get by the time jan comes round.

Nah we haven't been great, and have had a few dodgy games, and I cannot argue that the competition has been lacklustre so far, but you can only beat what's put in front of you.
This is probably going to be the most important January window in history in that it will make or break some teams.

Soton are about to enter their testing fixtures, see where they stand at the end of Jan. They play Citeh end of the month, Arsenal twice, Man U twice, Everton and Chelsea.

Whilst many 'pundits' were tipping Soton to be relegated (my God these pundits are morons who clearly no nothing about Football) that was never on the cards. 4th place is up for grabs so Soton have as good a chance as any but apart from Liverpool and Spurs (who both beat them) they haven't played any of the other teams aiming for CL yet. They've got the momentum of a good start at the moment but that could all be gone with their upcoming fixtures although they could also keep it going as some of those other teams are playing badly, guess we'll see in the new year.

Thats no different to Arsenal last season though, and they still got 4th.
Good start, owned all the minnows, then got their asses handed to them everytime they come across anyone else in the top 7. But if they can pick up enough points and play well against the other 13 teams in the league, there is no reason they cannot get 4th.

I would love to see Southampton in the CL. Thing is, if they finish 4th and have to qualify, they wont be seeded and could end up facing Atletico Madrid, or Borussia Dortmund or someone like that on the qualifying round.

They wont finish 4th but top 6 is genuinely realistic.

Anyway saints are this seasons west brom, hull, newcastle, sunderland, swansea or liverpool. Theres always one team.

What does CL matter anyway when you don't even try to win those games when you're in it?

MITO, whilst you are entitled to your opinion, I would be pleased if you could base them on fact when you publish them!

Firstly, I am NOT the "first to say Utd are doing X or Y" - there are plenty of other regular contributors who comment more quickly and more often about them. Secondly, in all of my musing about their club, I have never said that "they are going down" i.e. that they will be relegated (I may wish for it to happen but I have never forecast it).

I presume that your next comment is based upon my second paragraph. I hate to adopt this tone but let me take you by the nose to the start of that paragraph. There you will see that I start by saying "If Liverpool fail this season". What I go on to speculate would (I believe) be the result of that failure. In this paragraph I DO NOT state that Liverpool will fail this season. Therefore the outside appraisal of the value of our players would be vastly different! Therefore I can only suggest that you read what is written and comment upon that and not what you think you may have read.

At this stage, based upon our performances so far, and in the light of the results returned by our fellow compeitiors, I cannot yet say if we will achieve 4th spot. I truly hope that we do find some kind of form but, as yet, only see glimpses of it.

We need 7 clubs to do worse than us to get to 4th at the moment. Bottom half and no improvement in sight - a lot is being put on Sturridge absence but is it logical/reasonable that a single striker makes such a difference?

Yeah but you spent about £700m assembling your squad and have about £100m worth of talent out on loan so go away :)

  20. Young English talent? Sterling is already a full international with 98 games (Liverpool and England combined) under his belt at just 19 years of age. We've just seen Luke Shaw (a defender) go for £27m with less experience. We also saw Calum Chambers go for £16m with even less experience. Why wouldn't Sterling command a large fee considering the above, the fact that we don't want to sell AND he's got several years remaining on a contract he signed just last year!
