Talking of booing, Gareth Bale was booed by a section of the crowd at the Bernabau in Real Madrid's 4-1 win against Real Sociedad at the weekend. I don't know if it was for missed chances or from a previous match when Ronaldo was less than happy with him for scoring a goal, thinking that Bale should have passed to him instead. Crazy!!!
Looking at the replay of Bertrand's tackle on Barrow it does look very cynical and in my opinion deserves a red. I am sure Koeman will have taken him aside and given him a word of advice in private after the game.
It has been well debated and opinions are divided, nothing we can do about it now, I am positive that Ryan isn't the kind of player that would deliberately injure an opponent, which you seem to be accusing him of. It was two players at high speed both determined to win the ball, and it is not long ago no action would have been taken, in my opinion, these days with TV replays the attitude towards tackling has changed.
Bertrand wouldn't go out to hurt someone, but he was rash because we were losing. Pleased that he cared that much, but sorry the other lad was hurt and now we lose him for 3 games.
There's a foul there, but I can't see an instant red card. Yellow maybe. Bertrand even touches the ball first before contact the player, so technically it could even be a non-foul, but there's too much contact afterwards. Didn't see the match, so I don't know where the tackle took place, which would make a difference to the card colour, but it doesn't look that bad at all to me. I understand Saints were going to appeal it anyhow. We won't get a repreive for him because we don't.
It is a red. Getting the ball first is completely and utterly irrelevant when you lunge in wildly like that. There's nothing in the laws that says getting the ball is a fair tackle. Nothing. 9 times out of 10 getting the ball is a fair tackle because the tackle is well timed and controlled but not this time. He went lunging in with no thought for Barrow's safety and was out of control. Definite red card.
Was the lad hurt that much? Apparently not, a bit of bruising on the back of his knee, back in training today.
.....after two days of intensive physio! The extent of the injury is irrelevant because the ref won't be aware when he makes the decision how badly hurt someone is. The bottom line is that Bertrand didn't have control of the tackle and that is shown by his trailing leg which in effect scissored Barrow. It didn't seem a cynical tackle, more reckless or clumsy than anything, but Bertrand put himself in the frame to be red carded and the ref duly obliged. We've had plenty like that this season!
Just relieved it wasn't worse, being stretchered off always makes you think the worse case scenario, we have both suffered that this season.
