Sorry Gordon but your old theme is out of date, IMO. This forum is less than a week old for most of us and I have watched it very carefully during that week. It is doing fantasticly well I believe with next to no trouble. Yes we get the odd spat and always will but unlike the child you refer to we sort those spats out. I think in your world those spats would simply be hidden under the carpet.

I'm affraid I am getting a little fed up with your digs Gorden, I know you post on 606 telling everyone how poor this forum is so why come back mate. We are all grown ups here, not children and I for one will not treat my fellow Sunderland fans as children. Every member of this forum can make choices and the tools like the no swear option and ignore list are ways of improving those choices.

I really would like you to stay on this board and make it your new home Gordon, give it a chance and you may come to like it.

It might be too late now for some, but it could help the others.

My view is that the 'no swear' option and the 'ignore list' shouldn't be necessary, 'cos swearing happens in everyday life !

Temper the abuse, and you'll have a good forum <ok>

Gordon I honestly believe we do have a good board and that is my honest opinion. I really am delighted at how things are going and how everyone is acting. Yes we get the odd OTT but if you look at every thread over the past week, I have, and every comment, again I have, you will see by far the vast majority are fine. We have enjoyed some good debates and lots of laughs, indeed many posters are saying how they enjoy this forum. I do get the odd problem but they are sorted quietly and without fuss.

Can we not draw a line under this Gorden please? I enjoy your contributions and welcome them but I see little abuse but lots of banter, maybe we just have different opinions on what is aduse and what is banter. I dont agree with all that is said on here but when I act in the moderator role I try to put aside my likes and dislikes and act in what I think the majority want. If the time comes when the majorities views make me uncomfortable then I will leave.

My preferance is to stay within and try and slowly help the majority to make this forum the best Sundrland meeting place around, come and help me Gordon.

No, you asked about being a moderator, I said we did not need a second at the mo, may do soon but not now. Also said will bear it in mind, along with some others. When we need a second mod I will let the forum know, people can say if they would like the role and we will have a vote. I always say the same, the members will decide, not me.

Help is doing things like writing articles, threads like a few have done that add to the forum and taking part.

I have to say Gordon I think your last comment is behind all of this. Move on mate.
 
it can't be easy being a mod so good on you and all the others. The forum is great for keeping up to date and having the banter so let's be careful we don't strangle the whole thing at birth by bitching.

I wrote an article on the NUFC board asking Leazes a legitimate question around his views on posting as their mod. In that exchange of views I made the following statement in response from a NUFC poster.....

"skalpel:- "Really, who cares man? You can blab on about 'implications' of one deleted post on the internet all day if you like"

Rokerlad59:- "I believe the same may have been said in Germany or Mississippi, etc... "it's only one Jew/Black...etc..""

Now this is an example of how a little life experience can give a person real perspective when analysing anothers comments. I was illustrating the dangers of NOT ALLOWING free speech - NOT making a comparison to onerous and abhorrent historical events. It is when free speech is restricted that extremists can flourish, and reasonable people hide away and do not participate. I was stunned that so many mags bit hard on allowing SAFC comments on their board.

Am I now banned from the NUFC boards for wanting to uphold the concept of freedom??

And I cant argue with one word of that Roker. My problem, if it is a problem, is simple and that is the tone, standard and wellbeing of the Sunderland forum, its members and its visitors. Hand on heart I am delighted at how our forum is going, th way we help each other and above all how we respect each other. I have not deleted one comment or banned one poster, I repeat over and over that IMHO that is the very last resort. I do see some , IMO, mild abuse, if it was more than mild I would act. I see us all as grown ups and in most cases abuse comes when abuse is given. We have well over 5,000 coments since we started a week ago,I repeat 5,000 +. The amount of so called abuse on this forum, a very small fraction of 1%. I also look at other forums, just to see what they are doing and no I dont mean the Newcastle one, all I can say is I'm very proud, and maybe a little protective, of ours.
 
My opinion, as an outsider and a Newcastle fan, I have to say that when I have had a look at your board and some of the comments on here, I have found it far less tolerant of other fans than the old 606. THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF SYD IN ANY WAY, but the general feel of the place (to an outsider) is one where, if you dare to disagree with the common view you are subjected to some quite vitriolitic posts. (not just newcastle fans but also fans from other clubs)

On the old 606 I enjoyed some good banter and some decent discussions (and the occasional wind up and fishing) with some decent Sunderland fans. Unfortunately on here it seems to have become a lot more tribal, which is why I have not posted much. You will probably say "good, we don't want mags on here" but I think that a forum is better when you get the opinions of other fans and have some decent banter.

This is not a dig at Syd or anyone else, merely an observation, and it is only fair to ask the question, do you guys feel the same when visiting the Newcastle board? Are we less welcoming than on 606?
 
Some are less tolerant than on the old 606 simonbh7, but like Cyprussyd says, you can just ignore them. Plenty of decent fans who are after a natter instead.
 
You may have a point Simon, its easy to be respectful when you talk to each other. On 606 you had little option but to be polite because the mods got you and maybe the ability to say **** off means we use that option before we think. Worth considering.
That said I have written articles and commented on the Newcastle board and have had no problem, bit like with the the stewards and bother at games mind, never any bother but then again I dont go looking for it.

Thanks for that Roker I was going to trawl through the Mags board and find it, but frankly I couldn't be arsed.
I have made the point more than once that any mention of the holocaust was the Mugs going over the top!

I intolerance is intolerance in which ever form it comes.

I haven't been on BBC606 since joining here, and now it appears he is slanging this board off, on there?

Once again I ask the question why?

Gordon what gives you the right to slang off this forum elsewhere?

Like Syd has politely asked you if this place upsets your quite evident sensibilities so much why do you feel the need to make it your purpose in life to either change it to your way of thinking or denigrate because it wont change?

Being a moderator isn't about pushing your agenda it is about handling things that clearly upset the majority.

I don't think your being very fair mate.
I have seen plenty of threads with comments by Mags that have been responded to politely.
The difference here is that when one of your lot comes on with their inane oneliners clearly just to have a pop.
They get what's coming to them. <ok>

Lets not forget on BBC606 nearly every post laughing at Newcastle were moderated and deleted.
Mags posts taking the P out of Sunderland were left on, I never once deleted a post or complained on 606 but I know others did and the offending articles remained, fact!

Badger seems a canny lad and enjoys the craic but the holocaust comment needed correcting IMHO. <ok>
 
Well as some of you may be aware - I know Syd defo is - I have on occasion posted on the Mags board purely to wind them up - most took it in the spirit it was meant - overseasTOON and SiToon I think they're called, o mention two, but one or two didn't, which was fun lol - There was a post on their board earlier directed entirely at me, full of rage - I responded, pointing out that if they didn't want to engage in my banter then simply block me, not go off on a rant - someone over there is obviously in agreement, as the posting has been deleted, so there are some who can actually take it as well as give it - remember their postings when Bent left ? I do....
