This one is mainly for the bruce out posy..

If bruce was to leave or was shown the door, who would be next?

Pick a manager currently in the prem. that we could realistically have a chance of getting.

Forget the top 6 or7 as we wouldn't have a chance,

Would it be owen coyle, good manager but little loyalty,

Ian holloway? could he manage a bigger club, could definetly get a team motivated.

Then there's a few more decent names, mark hughes, roy hodgson,

Could big mick make a go of it with money at hand?

Then the rest, mc,leish, kean, grant, martinez, pulis.

So whilst we would hope of a big name manager, what if it wasn't possible, who would you choose?
 
I'd like to see MON......would be interesting to see what Mick Mac could do with really money to play with but would nit like to risk it........
 
2 replies so far and both answered MoN, but he's not currently managing in the prem.

given a choice of a prem manager currently employed....

Where is the sense in sacking managers and destroying our continuity, Bruce has cemented Sunderland in the Premier League and could still get us into the top ten even with 10 first teamers out injured and selling our main goal source.

Give him a break and support Bruce and the team instead of negative, disruptive articles like this.

think you need to read the thread properly mate, not once did i mention bruce to go,

it was more of a question for the bruce out posy, and a replacement IF he went.

if you have read any of my threads, you will know i have been one of bruce's biggest supporters all along.

so basically if you don't like my so called negative, disruptive article, don't ****ing read them...

I am certainly one of those who would prefer Bruce was replaced but I can hardly accept being part of a "posse". Posses were formed to go after and apprehend a criminal.
Bruce is not a criminal - I am grateful for what he has done for us - and nobody on this forum can do anything about it so "posse" seems to be an inappropriate word. Rant over.
To answer your post, I consider Sunderland, with the players we have, should be about 8th, 9th or 10th in the league so if I want to get in a manager to take us onwards and upwards, I feel it should, if possible, be someone who has experience of 7th place and above. Has any manager outside the top 7 any experience of it as a manager? I don't think so (except Avram Grant at Chelsea?). Based on this, I wouldn't go for any manager of a team below 7th.
You say we have no chance of a manager in the top 7. Moyes would be my best hope I think but as you say, probably very little chance. This is why I have to contravene your criterion of a current manager and go for MON who has experience of the top 6 on a regular basis.

but i asked about the remaining managers, as they along with bruce are proffesional prem managers,

it wasn't a bruce out thread as some seem to think,

but more of is there any managers, apart from the top seven, who would be up to managing safc.

and there are a few contenders if the worst happened, each with their own qualities.

mark hughes, and roy hodgson to name two.

Mark Hughes and Roy Hodgson would certainly seem to be the highest profile of the remaining managers but frankly, despite what Roy Hodgson has done abroad - and especially here in Switzerland - I don't rate them any higher than Bruce. So, in answer to your question, I would say no, I feel that none of the other managers would help Sunderland move on. I think we should be "looking outside the box".
 
For me if it was purely prem choice only it would be David Moyes. I think what he's done at Everton is incredible and an example that continuity is key in football, he seems to have had the same team (bar one or 2 ins n outs) for 4 seasons. I think if Moyes had gone anytime in the last few years Everton would have crumbled and woud have been fighting off relegation. He deserves a chance at a club with funds to push forward, everton have the 7th best team and that's why they'll finish 7th. To go any higher would need a big injection of money that they simply don't have, he must tear his hair out every summer when he sees teams splashing the cash. I think if an intriguing offer came along he'd jump ship. Whether or not we'd interested him or not I don't know. I can see him at spurs if Arry gets the England job

I agree...... if they weren't injured. If they weren't all injured then I honestly think we would be up there. And before anyone says "Bruce injured them!" Are you really so small minded that Bruce would want to destroy all the good work he has put in? Imagine yourselves at work and a few people call in sick - how are you going to cope? You WILL make mistakes throughout the say trying to juggle everyones jobs, and if your a manager, you will have to put people who don't do those things normally out of their confort zone and into some unfamiliar territory. I have had to do it, and I have been on the receiving end of it. Only thing about my job is I dont have 40,000 people screaming for me to be sacked.

Some people really should realise that instead of getting on someones back and making it harder for them, that being supportive always helps more. It seems a majority of people on here have the memory of a goldfish and can't see where we were - to were we are now. I hate seeing the constant barrage of threads from armchair managers shouting how they would do it better. The only managerial experience they have is from Football Manager and they think they could rival Fergie. If it were easy, why do so many fail, and aren't we all doing it?

I think he should stay. And am happy we have someone like Bruce at the helm. He is a good manager who has been in the job 2 seasons. How was Fergie doing after 2 seasons way back in the 1980's when you didn't have teams like Man City, Chelski and Man Utd spending massive amounts of money - and the Sunderland 'faithful' demanding instant results aswell on par with them?

I don't think you will see Hodgson leaving West Brom as he seems settled there after a torrid time at Liverpool.
As for MON, I do admire him but I feel that some fans are looking at his record with rose tinted glasses. His highest league placing at Leicester was 8th, and whilst at Villa he never quite managed to match the expectations of their supporters. His major success was achieved at Celtic which doesn't really compare to the Premier League.
I say that we have got a manager now who is every bit as good as any 'realistic' alternatives, and we can give him the best chance of moving the club forward by getting behind him and the club in numbers.

To be fair Commachio's thread was not advocating Bruce out, merely asking who would people prefer if he did go. I would like someone like Moyes, definitely not MON, or Mark Hughes. Roy Hodgson could possibly make a job of it, even though he couldn't manage the ego's at Liverpule, he had Fulham a fair way up the table before his head was turned by the red tide at anfield.

Whatever the reasons for all the injuries, they happened and management had to react. I feel that management reacted poorly and the business nose-dived. To be honest, I think we were quite fortunate to come away with 6 points against Wigan and Bolton. Where would we be without those six points? So, you might say we were unlucky with the injuries but lucky with the points we got so we are in the position we deserve to be - 12th.
However, I would prefer to look beyond "luck", which is out of our control, and look at the way management used the personnel at their disposal. Asking Onuha to play forward when recognised strikers (albeit at a reserve level but specialised strikers they are) are on the bench, refusing to play Riveros, an international defensive midfielder who features in the quarter-final of the World Cup, selecting players who are not physically up to it (Welbeck, Mensah...), leaving out Zenden, an experienced international who could steady the boat: all these are managerial decisions which endangered the existence of the company at the highest level.
I am not happy with Bruce at the helm. He is a good enough manager to get us to 12th but it requires better to take us on to higher things. His reaction to a crisis situation (not for the first time) left a lot to be desired.
I can't remember the details of Fergie's situation when his position was threatened at the beginning of his reign but they made the right decision to stick by him. However, should Liverpool have stuck by Hodgson? They took the right decision by getting rid. There are many clubs who give their managers one season to prove themselves and if not, out. Many don't even get one season and some gain success in one season and still get fired (Capello at Real Madrid - twice!). I feel that Bruce has been given a fair crack of the whip and been found wanting and it would be the right decision to thank him sincerely but look elsewhere for success.
