There is undoubtedly some parents who are irresponsible and piss all their money up the wall. That doesn't mean that those who genuinely are struggling should suffer too. Same as I don't believe that you should stop 100 refugees coming in on the off chance that a couple might be blagging it.
This is an absolute truth ... but also the main reason why this free school meals through half term was a very good idea ... because it would (or should) help to ensure that the majority of kids, irrespective of background, get fed proper grub, rather than, in far too many cases, their feckless parents blowing the money they get on fags, alcohol and recreational drugs ... and the kids lucky to get over processed food with poor nutritional value. That Tory MPs can blatantly ignore this because the on-line shop at Waitrose for them and their constituents will continue as per is a timely reflection of just how out of touch with the real UK today they are ... Whilst blame for poor nutrition does lay at the door of parents, ultimately, the fact that many on benefits vote Tory shows just how ill educated the ****ers are ... but them foreigners coming over here and taking our jobs yeah?
Also a bit insulting to claim those on benefits are ill educated, that includes a large portion of the country at the moment.
Generalisation I'll admit ... but the election results in high unemployment areas do quite often show a surprising proportion of Tory votes ... My old girl voted Tory all her life because, primarily, she feared what the Unions would do to the country ... mainly from a lifetime of reading the Daily Express ... remember sitting down with her once and outlining why voting for Labour or the Lib dems would be better for her financially as an individual ... she voted Tory again because there was "just something" she could "not stand about that Tony Blair" ...
Nope ... I referenced working class people who vote Tory because they have been hoodwinked by our right wing bias media ... sorry if that cuts a little close... no offence meant.
Not sure it is an absolute truth that people have enough money to live on, and that the expansion of poverty and food banks is all down to people not being able to budget properly. People talk about ‘I could live on that’, and for a week they probably could, but they forget that the disposable income has to cover everything, so clothes for their kids, all their utility bills, broadband or a phone contract - as you can only access UC via the net you need a phone for them to communicate with you. So over a span of time there’ll be weeks when that meagre disposable income disappears to next to **** all due to necessary costs. Feckless parents do obvs exist, but if their kids are going hungry due to an addiction or a poor life choices then that’s an issue for social services. The idea that these people form a sizeable percentage of the total of people who partly or completely rely on benefits is a complete misnomer, that’s been made to be seen as the ‘norm’ by some of the poverty porn on TV and stories of outrage from the right wing media.
