Unless Gyabi or Matazo are fit to start ( unlikely ) Lundstram has to come back in Tuesday , which might be unpopular but don’t see other choice
Lundstram can’t run either. @John1904-07 is right that Amir is our best passer in midfield but he needs energy and athleticism next to him in midfield and only Slater offered that. Lundstram, Crooks and Dowell are all slow, immobile and lack stamina. Without Slater, our midfield moves around like ex-pros on Soccer Aid.

The management team need to cop some serious flack for that and the last few dire performances. ****ing woeful. What was the plan today? Boom it to McBurnie to flick onto no ****er? Dross. Don't get me started on the subs. Serj has gotten away with murder in some games after getting a lucky result against the run of play. Now we're contenders, our arse has fallen out.

Also worth remembering though, we have players like Dowell and Akintola because of the embargo, without it you'd have seen much better coming in during both transfer windows.

That's not to say every signing this season has been bad, McBurnie and McNair have been great, Famewo and Gyabi have been ok but it's unlikely we'd have gone for Dowell, Akintola or Phillips if we had the luxury of free choice. The loan signings have been so mixed as well; Gelhardt great, Amir pretty good, Yu looked promising too. But we've not seen enough from Collyer (through no fault of his own, mind), Koumas flattered to deceive, Lundstram you'd probably give a D- minus to and N'dala came and went without much fanfare (again, not his fault, he just wasn't getting in ahead of Millar, Joffey, Joseph or Belloumi).

In the Summer, we have to shift Kamara (contracted to 2028, if we aren't using him might as well sell him), Akintola, Omur (see Kamara reasoning), Jacob, Dowell, Palmer and possibly Ajayi too. Destan I have no idea about, didn't look terrible but not going to be in ahead of McBurnie is he? Burstow is going to find it tough going as well. The squad doesn't seem to be very balanced in terms of depth, we have a lot of forward players who don't score or assist much on the books and very little in the way of quality cover at full back and defensive midfield, while the young lads pushing through the academy don't really inspire confidence either.

The core of our squad is good enough, but given our injury record, the players challenging them for a place need to be much better than what we have.

Jakirovic: 'Not our best performance today'
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic speaking to BBC Radio Humberside:

"That was not our best performance and from the beginning we didn't have a good balance. We had a lot of problems with second balls all over the pitch and maybe after 20 minutes we started to get better.

"We took the lead through Gelhardt and they didn't have anything, and second half we tried to increase our success but we didn't find the right tempo.

"There is always expectation because you want to win the game, especially in this moment of the season. Every game is now important and we will see at the end where we will finish."

'Don't let the season tail off' – Birmingham reaction

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies speaking to BBC Radio WM:

"We have seen Tomoki [Iwata] do some fantastic finishes but that and Demarai Gray away at Southampton are the two individual goals which stand out for me.

"Overall the players are really encouraged right now. There are not too many games this season when we have gone a goal down and come back and got something from the game. That is a really good sign.

"From where we were they are now looking like a team who can get a result in almost any game. We have two home games which we really have to attack. The key is not to let this season tail off."

I agree, just think until Slater or one of the others fit , he’s best of a bad bunch . I think Crooks is next to useless deeper , Lundstram can occasionally pick a pass out and despite his poor challenge against Sheff Utd , can occasionally dig in a challenge .

Crooks is a great player, but he noticeably tires around the 60 minute mark and often doesn't get subbed off until way after that. Not like he's super mobile as it is, but after an hour of playing he looks like I do after a six a side league game (questioning life). If we had a better option, he'd probably be the one coming on after an hour rather than the one going off.

Second game running with appalling in game management from Sergej, he leaves his subs too late, then when he does make them, they make as much sense as Walter’s.

We’ve thrown the last two games, really irritating.
And why are we wasting time at 66 minutes? Its embarrassing. Firstly it gets added on anyway, and secondly we should be doing all we can to improve our goal difference.

You get what you deserve and that behaviour coupled with poor subs again is why we are dropping points at home against a team as bad as Birmingham.

And Serj also has loads of credit in the bank, everyone including owner management and supporters would have taken a top 10 finish, plus it is his 1st season in management in the championship and he never had a great start with everything going on, i think we will still be fine and stay in the top 6 but if we don't then no blame should be placed on anyone it has been a great season.

I do agree, the embargo hasn't helped the quality, but did we REALLY need to bring in Dowell when we could have kept Akintola in the squad? I know they are different players and play in different positions but it just feels like a signing we made for the sake of it.

He does have credit but he's mucking this up. It would be a huge choke having been in the play offs most of the season - and 6 points clear in mid March. His management of the run in has been very poor and Rosenior and Selles both got more criticism.

I'm not blaming him. Just saying he's the only player I can remember doing something particularly bad individually. And he probably should've got a second yellow for that ridiculous dive too. Definitely think it was a team/system issue on the whole.
That one where he was shoved in the back when jumping?

Amir is definitely not the problem, however the midfield is an issue.

The best midfield we have is Amir as a progressive passer and a runner by the side of him. Crooks is not a runner and that is why there is an issue.

Statistically Amir is by far and out our best passer of the ball and needs to start. He can’t however keep starting with crooks.
I would say he's neat and tidy on the ball but he virtually always plays the safe pass. He offers nothing attacking wise, I can't think of a single big chance he's created all season (I think he's got one assist from a corner).

Maybe he does need a runner alongside but the last two games he hasn't had that luxury so surely it's up to him to get on the ball and dictate play, not go hiding.

Also having just seen a replay of their goal, why the f**k is he casually jogging back 10 yards behind their goalscorer.

We signed him on an 18 month contract.

We're stuck with him next season.

Even with our depleted midfield he's not getting a start.

Why did we buy him?
Rangers didn't want him, he was just stuck on their bench, but never got any game time.

We signed him because he was available, Rangers must have been laughing that someone took him off their wagebill.

It’s a shame Hughes isn’t fit as I’d try him in midfield, still our best passer of a footballer. We miss his passing.
I think Hughes has been encouraged to step out but then seemed reluctant to and let Egan go forward on more occasions so not sure he's comfortable in midfield?
