I went into the city centre last week after a 10 year absence and I was shocked at two things. Princes Quay is awful. How it got to the point that it is only 1/3 full at best is beyond me. The management company must be getting a beating from the owners for that! And secondly there doesn't seem to be 6.sq ft that is not affected by the resurfacing! I cannot understand who programmed the works to be undertaken in such an adhoc fashion. I feel sorry for all the businesses affected. It's also a little funny that it is taking so long and that when it involves public sector money everyone seems to be on a go slow. I understand some of the previous works basically glossed over the old streets and now the are doing a 'proper' job but still. I would have also expected some evening/night works around Queen Victoria Square and there is very little in the way of residential properties and it's nice and quiet to work on the paving. Hope they pull their finger out for 2017!
The photographer asked them not to move as he was taking a long exposure and, if they moved, they'd blur the shot...
The photographer must have been taking A LOT of shots of workmen in Hull. I have seen many occaissions when they could have taken long exposure shots, even unplanned
Like when they took the aerial, shot of Hull Dock years ago and someone spoilt it by moving.Around the same time there was a panic when a crate full of tortoises was dropped and split open and they escaped. A shop steward said "My boys did their best to round them up,but they were just too fast for them".
I have to say the new amphitheatre looks awesome. Hull's equivalent of the Minack Theatre in Cornwall.
Its starting to looking good around there now. The Nibbles Coffee/food bar down the steps is nice aswel.
Brilliant, wasn't sure at first. But it's got a great back drop and couldn't be in a better location. Is it all timber on the seating and 'stage' surface? I know they have a lot of steel underneath lifting it from the dock basin.
I love the marina area - best part of Hull IMHO. We used to take the kids down their loads when they were content just watching the boats as a form of entertainment It's getting to be our jewel in the crown. I only wish they would have a re-think on how the marina is accessed safely by people. The Marina needs to be better integrated with the rest of town. The proposed bridge solutions just don't look the part for me.
Thought so, it won't matter for now. But knowing how treacherous decking can get when that algae takes a grip, it will be something they'll have to keep a close eye on. Particularly as we live in a blame/claim society. It really does look ace though - might have to pop into Hull and have a look. I'll see if I can fob the kids off with the boats again
You honestly think so? You expect it to be listed amongst the world's most spectacular theatres and have a 100,000 people a year pay just look round it on addition to the ones who hold to performances there? Not to mention the comparison in settings.
