Another could camp in front of the opposing back 4 and collect the ball at his feet and use his strength to bring others into play. Another would be to flick the ball on or control on the chest if it's a more direct, long ball approach.

If you'd ask what position Rooney played it would be behind the forward. A role is somebody's job. Two people can play in the same position (which is what you're on about) and play a completely different ROLE.
