If you'd ask what position Rooney played it would be behind the forward. A role is somebody's job. Two people can play in the same position (which is what you're on about) and play a completely different ROLE.

I'm sure you're aware of this by now anyway...

 

Most people talk about roles instead of positions tho. Well I do & the football experts do.
