No Sunderland team of the time under Murray ever had money - infact Peter Ried was the only one ever given money. Dennis Smith had no Money, poor Mick Macarthy had no money and the poor bloke was sacked and most Sunderland fans still feel he got a raw deal how he got that team promoted in the first place was a miracle, he was then given 50p to invest and we got 15 points go figure. Boards sack managers to deflect supporters anger. We had had pretty much two bad seasons from Reid when he was sacked, it was hardly knee jerk. There was talk of him paying his own son as an agent and making thousands. The problem with Reid was that he knew how to build a football team around Niall Quinn, which to his credit he did very well. However once Quinn retired Reidy was stumped, he attempted to replace Quinn but never got it right and his system only worked if you had someone as good as Quinn in it. You look at it and our demise can be seen from Quinn's retirement.

So for you to suggest Reid was a knee jerk reaction comes across to a Sunderland fan as an attempt as a wum especially coming from your glass house, remind us of your league position when you sacked - Robson, Dagleish, Gullet etc and the still mistifying Chris Hughton sacking - however there was no pressure from Newcastle fans on that one.

So having an opinion on a decision on a point in Sunderlands history is immediately wumming? Why because I'm a mag? That quite frankly wreaks of small minded insular thinking. I agree wholeheartedly that your managers have never really much time or backing from the board. Indeed I think that was my original point which for some reason has drawn three or four insults. Touchy is the best I can describe it.

Gullit really? It was a bit different, he didn't really ever look like he had a clue. Everything he achieved at Chelsea was off the back off someones elses work and he was awful the whole time he was here. What has he achieved since? Just a poor manager. I'd have given Dalglish time, bloke was on a hiding to nothing after KK. Fans and board overeacted, though the mutual departure was probably for the best as he was never going to be backed by some of the fickle supporters and I think he was fed up.

Robson was an awful decision by Shepherd, and minority who booed him and ignored our progress under him were frankly stupid. Ashley's sacking of Hughton was a disgrace and I think more down to a face not fitting. I can be quite honest about our history, we've had shocking boards. Some fans have been fickle. I hope we don't go down the same old road.

I think Peter Reid was a good manager for Sunderland. I think he had earnt a bit more time than he got.

BTW, I wanted Mon, backed him 100% through this difficult period and believe absolutely without any doubt we have the right man, at the right time and expect him to be here for a great deal of time to come.

I'll tell you another fact. He will see out Pardew at your place.
 
My take on Reid was that he was a relatively knew manager who thought he was better than he actually was. Always appeared to have a good relationship with SAF but was he a good mentor?

I'd have fired Pardew ages ago, the guy is tactically inept. His team picked itself last year, he stumbled on a 4-3-3 formation that worked and it paid dividends for him massively. Now he's being exposed, stood there clueless on the sidelines with no class and about as much motivational skill as a suicidal goth.

Having said that, I wouldn't expect your season to finish much stronger than Newcastle's. I think you're in just as much danger due to your playing staff, as opposed to your manager, you have no centre halves or recognised full backs fit last time I looked, that's fairly important.

And we're in the first week of the transfer window - Last I looked Kilgallon was still fit (recognised Centre Half) and Bramble? Gardner is a decent right back - not his first position but can certainly play there and loves a tackle. Besides, with Wickham and Fletcher up front we'll just score more than they do!! Defence isn't important......
 
A lot of this thread reads as if Sunderland are safe themselves. Far from it. If we win and you lose this weekend we swap positions. How will the picture look then. Our stats are bad, it's only recently that Sunderland started to put a few notches in the win column themselves. It's all relative. This transfer window will give us a good indication of where we are going. Sign no one else then we have to pray our injured players come back and stay fit until may. Anymore set backs and we will be in deep ****.
 
Suppose you could look at it like that Marcus

Your first choice back four is out though, correct? Rose, O'Shea, Cuellar and Bardsley, and your captain. You have a sequence of 9 games where you should be realistically looking at taking no fewer than 20 points from, before you play us and it comes to a miserable end! Without a back four who can play well together you're making yourselves a target for clubs to pick up points from.

I just think it was a bit over confident to start this thread up, considering you're 4 points off the drop and you have to play 5 out of the 6 teams below you AWAY!
