Obviously the whole argument is about what you define as 'English'. I personally would just choose to play for the nation my allegiance is with. I.E the country I would like to represent. It is the player's decision after-all. EDIT - For example, if I was any good at Football (or sports in general) I could represent France or England. I would choose England because at the end of the day, I feel English. Which is what I think Wilshere is getting at. Sort of.
To be honest, my dream is to play bowls (competitively) for Trinidad & Tobago, as deep down that is where my heart belongs, though I've never been there, I feel connected too them in many different ways. And none of you ****ers can ruin my dream!
Yes I can! I have been there and lived there and worked there and I love the place to bits and many of my friends are Trinis or Tobagonians. In fact I have the award of being an honoury Tobagonian from The Tobago House of Assembly (even though no such official status exists). But I'm English and proudly I'm Scouse. The sad thing about the Sister Isles is the deterioration in the security situation and especially the growth in racism. Very sad but true.
I think this easily boils down to this. Mo Farrah... double medals caused virtual hysteria. nobody in this country it seems wants to know his name is mohammed nor so they want to say he was from somalia do they? celebrate englands diversity, if a W.A.S.P. in the us said what whilshire said in the 1950s i guess it would not be out of place... "give me your huddled masses" and all that. diversity made the Us great. everyone wanted to go there. The Uk has lots and lots of peoepl wanting to come here. Celebrate it, it means we are a good nation and a good place to live. so why should the priveldged little ****e get to decided who plays beside him for england. and they all have to be a certain ilk too. I still say sterling got lucky coming over here and getting his chance. if he doens't blow it by being an idiot then perhaps he will be sitting in the dressing room with whilshire who clearly thinks he should not be playing for england. I really don't care about this kid of utd... i don't even think he's be in the country long enough to be considered HG for the prem rules! someone please clarify that but also.... poeple on about arteta and alumina... alumina was a joke the day it was brought up but arteta is 31 so its only natural this "goes away".. we can't celebrate when an athlete does us proud if we on the other hand then say in another sport its wrong.
I dont think Wilshire meant that MITO, I think you are being too literal. I would consider Sterling English. I consider John Barnes to be English, Zidane to be french even though he was born in Algeria ect ect Jacuzzi is Belgian and there should be no way on earth he should be allowed to play for England as it makes a mockery of international football, I think that is what Wilshire is getting at but Jack wasn't given the scope to be detailed in that simple question he was asked or the quote taken. The beeb trying for a bit of controversy as usual I reckon he considers Sterling to be fine with an England spot even though he was not born in England he is considered English
