Put yourself in their shoes though. You grow up dreaming of running in the Olympics and you're an awesome long distance runner, however there are 5 other people from your Country who are just as good and better than you so you don't get a look in. However you do have the chance of representing a different country that you have some sort of ties with, would you pass up the opportunity?
Having people faster or better than you is no justification for ****ing off to compete under another nation's flag.
So you're not good enough for that country. Train harder. Not being good enough is a poor excuse for changing nationality. If football goes that route, half our team will be the Spanish B team.
Yes. My dream would be running in the Olympics for my country, not some random country that I have minimal ties with!
Nigeria to Norway, try no ties A case of "who has the ****tiest runners in the world?", "hmm I'll go there"
as long as everyone agrees that jack whilshire is a zenophobic, nazi, bnp flag bearing, ukip member with far right tenancies second only to our own Suarez.... I'm good. Its all about taring everyone with the same brush. cheslea got theirs with terry. if arsenal get theirs next all we need then is a few nazi salutes form david moyes ala di canio and we're good. OR we can just say that whilshires and awful muppet for falling for a hack's leading question.
Maybe the national teams as we know it should be scrapped? Instead, have a national team made up of players based in the countries leagues? Scotland, Wales and Ireland would be ****ed but we'd have a great side
We'd still be **** as Hodgson would get the managers job and continue to play Milner as his flair winger!
The FA recording confirms the question as: “Jack, there has been lots of talk over the past few days about the lad Januzaj, who is at United, potentially playing for England in the future. We have with players like you, Ross Barkley and Ravel Morrison all coming through, what would your view be about playing with foreign players with England, or even watching them from the bench?’’ To which Wilshere is heard on the FA recording replying: “No, for me if you are English you are English and you play for England, you know. I think the only people who should play for England is English people. “If you lived in England for five years for me it doesn’t make you English. You know, you shouldn’t be, you shouldn’t play ... it doesn’t mean you can play for a country. If I went to Spain and lived there for five years I am not going to play for Spain, you know what I mean?’’ Ok, so he's not the most articulate person in the world but this can only be misinterpreted intentionally. The lad qualifies what he's saying perfectly in his last sentence quoted above. Lots of mischevious folks (not on here) saying things like "how can he look Sterling in the eye" etc. Why? How does holding the opinion that you must be born in a country to play for a country become an unhealthy opinion: he is not saying one is superior to the other ? Personally I go for including up to high school leaving age but I can see where place of birth only leaves a clear non debatable system of selection. I can 100% guarantee if you replaced Wiltshire with Giggs or Fletcher and the word English with Welsh or Scottish this wouldn't have got past the 3rd page of the BBC website. The fact that defining something or someone as "English" has somehow become an indicator of a person holding racial or xenophobic beliefs is deeply disturbing. It suggests the BNP et al have actually won!
There is a difference in talking about a player (Sterling) who has been in this country for thirteen years since he was just five years and having progressed through the English schooling system, to a player (Januzaj) that's was bought to this country two years ago because of his footballing ability and Man Utd wanting to fulfill the homegrown criteria that is not eligible for the England team for another three* years! * people keep saying 2018? Isn't citizenship five years? He's already been here two. Sterling is more in liking to John Barnes. How come no one ever talks about Arteta or Almunia anymore?
I told My Mrs about this, this morning after a morning ride - over Latte and smoked Salmon and poached eggs. I said you're now my English Rose, she slapped me and said 'me nah English, Jamican mi seh'. #proudroots
