Just slightly drifting off Holt for a second but does anyone else find West Ham slightly embarrassing and cringeworthy? In particular David Gold...always on SSNews providing ridiculous interviews and quotes.

i don't care anymore, if holt thinks he's bigger than the club, then he can **** off. We shouldn't, and must never put ourselves in a position of paying more than we can afford for players, their wages or anything else. In three years we've managed to put ourselves in a strong financial position, and we must hold onto that. I've said it before, norwich city is my club, as a supporter it part belongs to me as i have invested in it as have all supporters, and no one, that is no one must ever be able to put our club in danger again.
We plucked grant holt from obscurity, and put him in a club and a team where he could flourish, to his credit he took that opportunity and did fantastically well, but, it was a team effort, not just him that brought us success. Delia brought in mcnally, who brought in lambert, culverhouse, kaksa, who brought in a host of new players. The fans filled the stadium, bought season tickets in their 10's of thousands, bought replia kits and and god knows what else from the club shops, it's our club!
So if grant holt doesn't want to be here or is trying to hold us to ransome, then it's in the best interest's of norwich city f c to sell him, and the sooner that happens the better. He is in danger of going from hero to zero in my eyes, and i now want him out!

Ild otbc

Bang On !

well it does look as though the holt bid has been accepted so i think he'll be a west ham player by next week if all goes according to plan. funny thing is, west ham fans don't want him, city fans don't want him to leave... sounds like this is going to be a great move holty, well done <doh>

all for the sake of a few extra quid. footballers, eh?

IMO he should stay at Norwich.... He just going to fail at west ham ffs

Perhaps Gold has chucked in a few hos.Lots of pie and mash shops around there too.But seriously if he is going to double his wage you can't blame him.Maybe all Premiership clubs should be forced to have a wage cap.

With the number of forwards already on the books at Upton Park, I wonder how often he'll actually get to play. I think the post by ILD yesterday sums it all up for me (Holt went from zero to hero and back to zero in the space of 3 years thanks to PL and the other 9 outfield players at CR) and I would far rather players who are proud to wear Yellow and Green and do their utmost to keep us in the EPL for as long as possible. <ok>

according to david mcnally, the bid from west ham on tuesday night for grant holt has been rejected!

this gets more and more confusing to be honest and i'm beginning to think we should just get rid, replace him, and start planning for next season asap - holt has made it clear he doesn't want to be here. having said that, i totally understand why the club are refusing offers if they don't meet their asking price, after all, he is contracted to the club for a further two years and is an important player. its a tough one!

Supers - I feel that if Holt doesn't want to play for us (the team that gave him the opportunity to become a household name), then let's get rid of him and move on to the next chapter. Agreed, he's got 2 years left on his contract, but as I said earlier in this post, I would far rather players who really want to represent our great club running out to the cheers of the supporters home and away, than someone who obviously wants to move for a few extra £000's in his bank each week and most likely spend a great deal of time sitting on the bench as opposed to actually playing!!!!

It is a difficult one though.Imagine you worked for a good employer who had given you a chance but could only afford to pay the minimum wage. Then another comes along and offers you £12 an hour. What do you do?

To be fair that's a bit simplistic, Holt is alledgedly on nearer £20K per week which is probably more than what most posters on here get in a year ! If he can't accumulate enough money to retire on earning that he must be 'two bob short of a ten bob note'. (Older posters will know what I mean<laugh>). Besides, what gives a professional footballer the God given right to retire at an age when most of us are less than halfway through our working life ? It might due them some good to get a proper job after playing they might then appreciate the true value of money <ok>

First if a footballer employed Jimmy Carr's accountant then they should definately make enough to retire in a couple of years, Secondly do you believe that Holt (if he stayed) would be the same player if his heart wasn't really at the club? Wouldn't it be best to say thanks, you have gave us 3 good years so you can go if you really don't want to stay, to save any damage to the spirit of the rest of the squad.

I definitely think Holt has burned his bridges Guru and there is probably no way back. I was just emphasising the point that professional footballers don't live in the real world. If Wet Sham are offering anywhere near £5M I'd bite their bloody hands off for it. I'm realistic, Holt has one perhaps two more good year's left I say sell him, one bad apple and all that. Put another £2M on top of the £5M and I don't care what anyone says, we would be able to buy a younger more than adequate replacement <ok>

i think in most cases you'd be right and he wouldn't be the same player, but according to holt's agent this has been rumbling on behind the scenes since before the season ended and it didn't seem to affect his performances then. i don't think it'll affect the spirit in the camp. i'm willing to leave the door ajar to him but to be honest i think we'd be better off getting rid - i think its gone too far now. plus, £5.5m is a lot of money for a 31 year old. he's a very important player for us but we'd be able to replace him with a younger striker who might give us another four or five years as opposed to two more, so it's one of those where at first it looks like a disaster, then we may actually come out of it all even stronger.

£5.5 is a great price. But he has been a great player for us.If he goes and we stay up it was the right decision. If we get relegated and he scores 15 for West Ham then it wasn't.

it might work in our favour, it might not. that's the risk but i trust hughton to replace him adequately. the biggest risk of all is for holt's career. i really don't think he'll be a success if he moves on. still, he'll have his fat pay cheque to cheer his soul.
