lets face it, He had no problem signing a 3 year contact at a point where he had no idea whether or not he could cut it in the prem. He was happy to take the money a year ago when he could not have predicted whether or not he would have been value for money to the club. That contract was given to him as a show of loyalty for what he had done in the previous 2 years. It could easily have been money down the drain.

Yes, it works both ways, but what is the point in our club - striving to be self-sufficient financially (and making a damn good fist of achieving that <ok>) paying someone who clearly is unhappy at the club £15/16k a week to train with and play for the reserves over a point of principal? Better to offload - for an appropriate fee and get somebody in who wants to be here and is am +ve rather than potentially -ve and risking demoralising the other troops. Don't forget the emphasis they put on deirs and team spirit - they're a close-knit group.

Oh I'm sure you'd rather lose that and call his bluff! So would I! I honestly think it's a great idea, but that's not the commercial reality of the situation. McNally is a director and owes a duty to the company, so he can't just say "oh, it's for the principle" and then risk losing the money.

It would swing both ways, but let's face it, that rarely happens. Andy Carroll didn't want to leave Newcastle apparently, but he was "persuaded"...

    Money, unfortunately, rules in football.

It is a little different for us though. Ashby would always take the 'money route', but our owners are in it for what is best for the club. Despite an initial financial loss, I think that this would be best for the club in the long haul.

What it all comes down to is this: Is Holt prepared to play for us with the enthusiasm he showed last season under the right circumstances? Unless that answer is a definite YES then he must go for the good of all concerned. But that must involve five million quid changing hands because that is his value. If he is prepared to stay then he could be worth four times that to norwich unless we an come up with an equivalent striker.

If he wasn't such a tosspot I would mention Chopra.I think he could cut it at that level.

I disagree about what is best for the club. A lot will depend on what Hughton feels and whether he can reach agreement with Holt. What is most important is staying in the PL again this year, an the chances of that are much greater with Holt here, IMO. The club would lose far more in teh long run.

The fact that Hughton has been on what seems a bloody long holiday, (although it's probably only been two weeks), hasn't helped the situation. If he had been here and able to have spoken to Holt sooner this whole debacle could have been resolved by now one way or another. We need closure on this sooner rather than later it's pissing everybody off if you ask me <ok>

The only people its pissing off is us. Most of the players are on holiday and I bet they couldn't care less what is happening to Holt. It's not like they spend every waking hour in his company now its the off season!

Besides, it's given Holt some time to mull over his options and now he can see that a cheap get out just isn't going to happen. McNarly has made that abundantly clear so now the dust has settled he can approach CH and hear what he has to say.

We have exactly 4 weeks to our opening friendly. That doesn't seem an awful long time to sort out Holt or a replacement. I hope with the brilliant communications we have nowadays that Chris Hughton has been keeping in touch and not just lazing on a beach. He commented on Surman so I assume he was involved. Lets hope my nervousness is unfounded.

i find it laughable that some people seem to think that hughton shouldn't have been allowed a bloody holiday! its two months till the season starts.

Every club/manager/scout will have a list of players they like. They don't just formulate a list of players at the end of the season they will have them long before. There is no need to worry I'm sure those involved with the club will of covered every eventuality when it comes to replacing players and staff, they are proactive rather than reactive.

Just think, we might have found ourselves looking for a new manager with the season starting in a couple of weeks <yikes>! Compared with that, what's happened is pretty much as good as you could hope for. Also, considering the pressure of work CH must have been under for the entirety of his year at relegated, transfer-embargoed and cash-strapped Birmingham, I'm really glad he has had time off -- though I imagine NCFC has occupied his thoughts for most of his "holiday" anyway. <ok>

I said there was 4 weeks to the first friendly not the start of the season. And we're not playing bloody Dereham again this year we have some top opposition. Of course he can have a holiday but not at the expense of letting things slip which I am not even accusing him of. I hope he had a phone grafted to the side of his head.

Dear oh dear, he probably gave a list to McNasty to get started on before he left. Have faith!

I really must question Holt's intelligence, this could end up being such a silly career move. Maybe his agent has poisoned his mind, or maybe he's just stupid.

I did hear that Obama has lent him the RED TELEPHONE that normally sits on the presidential desk! <laugh>

...... and after CH's first phone call, Putin has promised to loan us the entire Russian international squad for the season (in the mistaken belief that Norwich is somewhere in Siberia) ......

I like the Dereham game you can get close to the players, have a chat and some banter and hear what they say between themselves. It's quite illuminating being only a couple of feet from the game.
