Haven't heard much criticism of Holt, but as people have said if we could start a second striker at the expense of Tettey (Recent games have suggested, to quote Yarco, that the 'Beast of Carrow Road' alone should suffice) then it may be fruitful.

TBH supers I prefer becchio. Anyone who can last that long at Leeds deserves a medal in my book

robbie, i'd guess it would have been a straight 4-4-2 with hoolahan on the left. i don't personally want to see holt and becchio up front together - i think they are far too similar and would prefer to try kamara off holt/becchio if we do go two up top.

Yes, I think you are very like right about Hoolahan. Regarding the 2 up front, I'd forgotten about Kamara <yikes>. Unveiling that secret weapon wide right might give Leighton Baines something to think about!

If anyone is criticising Holt, I think it's purely out of frustration at how the team as a whole are going at the moment. Certainly he's been very good this season, especially during the unbeaten run. It's true that he has games where he seems to spend more time falling over and trying to get free kicks than doing anything constructive, but this is only when he is isolated upfront and there are no other options available. He has a good footballing brain and he usually makes the right decision, and when the nearest Norwich player is twenty yards away, this is the right decision. I wish we had someone closer to him up front - despite opposing fans stereotyping him as a donkey, his little flicks are devastating. He has much more skill than non-City folk give him credit for.

3. Martin Skrtel
Similar to Grant Holt at Norwich, Skrtel's bumper new contract in the summer has been followed by a string of disappointing performances and Liverpool may wish they had encouraged Zenit St Petersburg's interest in the defender in January.

i have to say that i believe holty has done as well this season as last considering we play in a totally different way and what he has been asked to do.

hughton knows that total all out attack only works if you constantly score goals and can defend a little bit, if you stop scoring goals while always conceeding then the magic lambert formula doesnt look so good as villa are finding out

Very sensible post. A lot of what Holt is doing is through necessity and team orders. He has not been as prolific this year but he has not had anywhere near the number of chances to score. Unnder Lamber we has a very attack-minded strategy and we scored and conceded more. Our forwards got praised and our defence criticised. Under Hughton we have scored and conceded fewer and now our defence is getting the plaudits and our forwards are being castigated. It is just people's perceptions - if we had just had thre 3-3 draws the attack would be praised and defence criticised even though the net result is the same. If we start every match going 4-5-1 with two DM's it seems pretty obvious to me that we are likely to be more solid at the back and less creative up front.

CH is an experienced manager and I have faith that he knows what he is doing and what we need to do to get the results to keep us up. the concerns many on here have about our style of play and certain players roles will, I am sure, be addressed close season.

Holt remains our most inspirational player and IF he is given the service he will score. If he is not he will work his backside off for the team to grind out a result not just whine about lack of service and seek personal glory.

Excellent post, Norfolkbhoy <ok>
That's gone a long way to calming my frazzling nerves :emoticon-0105-wink:

I've never in my life been frazzled in Cromer! What's the place coming to? I rely on Cromer for bracing walks and icebreaker dips in the sea! <laugh>

i'd love to know how many chances holt has had this season. obviously he has just the four goals but as far as clear cut chances are concerned, i bet he's had no more than a dozen all season. the work rate and hold up play have been as good as ever but if you aren't presented with the chance to score, he isn't the kind of player who can make something out of nothing. he's had another very good season and the lack of goals blinds people who assume it means 'he's been crap'.

he hasn't.

far from it.

I actually thought that Holt did **** all yesterday apart from one shot in the first half and his tap in at the end, just saying <whistle>

P.S. plus he looks like he's wolfed down a dozen burgers in the last week !

What do you mean? He spent the whole first half putting in awesome flick ons, went very close in the first half and then worked very well with Kamara.

He gets paid for those "tap ins" by the way. If it was a one off I'd agree but how many times has he stepped up and won us a game? He is a god.

And he's not fat. It's a talksport myth. If he was skinny he'd be ****. He's all power.

<laugh> Hook, line and sinker Beefy !!!

I thought Becchio did well in first half too. Technically I would say he is slightly better than Holt, although naturally doesn't win quite as many headers. I thought everyone that played yesterday was top to be honest. Plus Hughton got the system spot on, I still think that Becchio starting was the right decision, it allowed Kamara to have the impact he had, and also I thought first half Everton's defence got a bit of a battering from Holt and Becchio's endless hard work. No wonder Kamara had the impact he did, not taking anything away from him, but I think Becchio laid the foundations.
