Im lucky enough to have been to well over 100 countries, but by far the most uncompromising was Japan.

My first visit was more than 20 years ago and I was stunned when the information/help desk at the airport didn't speak English!

I had a great time overall, a jet lagged visit to Tokyo fish market for a sushi breakfast, seeing mount Fuji from a bullet train, getting completely lost constantly, being the only one in the hotel restaurant not wearing the Kimono from the room, getting a jet of warm water up my arse after pressing random buttons on the bog and genuinely and honestly doing pissed up karaoke with my local agents where they put thier ties around their heads like Samurai!!!
Could have been worse...

Anyone recommend any decent Manchester Airport hotel with parking for 16 days, in easy reach of T2, that won't cost the earth, literally.

I like flying from Manchester, multi-storey's for each terminal, a two minute walk from check-in and you're out of there as soon as you get your bags back. I just booked this morning for a flight next week, though it's probably quite pricey for two weeks.

Is the train an option? I thought the airport had a station.
Yes, Man Airport does have a railway station attached with trains to and from Man Picc and other places eg York. However, I need to get my car into safe parking as I have no wish to leave it unattended at home for 16 days. Therefore, some parking is required. I'll get something somewhere...Tar.

I always park in T2 West onsite at Manchester - find it very easy and as said earlier, a few minutes and you are in the terminal. Need to find a week for somewhere at the end of August, thinking Majorca at the moment - went to a brand new hotel in Fethiye in June which was stunning, and looking to do New York at Christmas

I'm away at the moment, and we booked the meet and greet. Literally pull up outside the terminal, give them your keys, and they'll park the car for you. It cost us about £20 more than the basic parking

Lots of cases reported recently about dodgy meet'n'greet operators. They take your car, park it in a muddy field, take it for joyrides, bash them up, etc. Beware, you get what you pay for!

National express do a bus from Hull bus station to Manchester Airport for about £14.
There used to be a direct train Hull to manchester airport, now due to work on the line you have to do 2 3 or 4 trains and costs about £25.

That bus probably takes like 4 hours

T2 West now signposted P3 for info when next arriving.

That happened to me at Gatwick. Told me to drive into the multi next to the terminal and they would meet me there. I wrongly assumed that my car would be parked in that carpark. However it was a group of rough looking Asian guys just stood in there. They took my keys after making me pay an additional fee for entry to the airport and as I left the carpark , my car was driven past me at speed. When I picked it up 2 weeks later, it was literally covered in mud and bird ****, obviously been parked in a field somewhere. I was worried all that holiday if I would see my car again. Be very careful about meet and greets.

We stay at the Clayton (fairly basic, but what do you expect from an Airport hotel).
They do a stay and park package linked to the Drop and Go car park which is a two min walk from the hotel.
Hotel has a minibus service to all terminals. £235 for one night and two weeks parking.

I try and avoid Manchester airport TBF 'cos I hate the drive on the M62 which seems to have never ending roadworks. Prefer East Midlands or Birmingham if we can get the flights.

Reading other replies regarding meet and greet, the D&G car park is a safer option ... it's a huge onsite multi-story, but you park up in a drop off area, give them the keys and they then just decide where in the multi-story to park it. They them move it to a pick up area on the day you fly back and tell you where it is on key pickup. I checked my mileage and it had moved less than a mile.

I hate the M62 drive. I now get the train and if necessary, stay overnight in Manchester. There is a Premier Inn next to Picadilly which is reasonably priced providing there are no big sporting events or concerts. Also 2 other Premiers not far from the airport which are cheap, don't usually pay more than £50 any day of the week.
