This .... "The best thing to attract more funding is to absorb the East Riding suburbs as it enables bigger funding or certainly seems to in the case of Sheffield and Leeds" and This ... "I still believe had the council worked with the university it’s accommodation and some active buildings could have been city centre located that would have contributed to some survival"
Makes a ripple globally.Sign of a place on the up etc. By no means a deal clincher, but changed perceptions here and abroad.
Not sure what you are saying here, It sounds like you're saying that food factory workers are all "foreigners" and they contribute nothing to the economy. Also, if they spend all their money in "foreign" shops they are a cost to the nation. You said something similar earlier too, but I think it got moderated. Is it just me that thinks you are making yourself sound like a massive racist ****?
Temp agencies for places like Cranswick rely on flexible production labour to cover spikes in demand. It's cheaper than employing full time staff in terms of pension, NI, paid hols etc than permanent staff. Not ethical but they all do it...keeps their costs and our prices down, and their profits healthy. V difficult to find any temp staff right now - the agencies are really dredging the bottom of thelocal pool, and finding unreliable, unfit shirkers. No wonder they prefer the fit, compliant foreign agency staff who will work for less.
Good post but you are wrong about the 'three R's' Don't know about Ranks but Radiator ( Ideal Standard) were one of the best payers in the city. I was working in the foundry there during the Miners Strike when they were striking for £1 an hour, we were already getting it at Ideal £40 for 40 hours, now sadly it has gone. Reckitts employed mainly female staff but treated them very well. Your are right about the food industries and you could throw the likes of Tesco and Argos in with that because most of their employees wage packets are made up by benefits of some sort.
Don’t confuse racist with realist it’s an aspect of our economy . If anyone in hull is earning poor wages local or other wise because of greedy business owners then they will always need support which we can’t afford . Yes I referred to foreign workers that have come here and are forced into HMO ‘s to be exploited again , if there are 24000 in the city recently identified and a proliferation of home country produce shops which there it’s then a strong possibility . my ideal world would be to take very ‘poor ‘ person , alcoholic , drug taker and work one to one to try and rehabilitate them into normal society but unless we all contribute on the positive side of taxes etc maybe we could do this / but whilst a few get rich then it continues I grew up in a council house 6 kids plus parents , father was a **** and a real problem . No money , debt collectors , what they now call bullied at school for not having anything , could have gone either way , but worked hard for a modest living and all I want is the best for everyone whatever race , the proviso is they pay their taxes , work if they can and behave - if they don’t then that’s wrong . if you think I’m racist then again your wrong but there is activity I read about that’s unacceptable and there is culture I find a problem . and that goes for the gangs of locals causing havoc on the estates and the result. Yet again someone picks out parts of a broader discussion to suit their agenda
'Hatred' ? Sorry it's not hatred. I have worked for and with HCC. I have lived in this city all of my life. I live in the ER now but still consider myself very much 'Hull'. I trade ( work) in this city and the fact that 'we see the same on every high street in every town' is exactly my point. The council have made Hull into an identity kit town. Are you then saying that the centre of Liverpool, which is a very similar city to Hull at the other end of the M62 is exactly like Hull ? Because I don't think it is. Neither is Newcastle, York or Leeds. The decision makers have virtually killed off Hull City centre. You only had to listen to councillor Lee someone or other on the radio today, the cabinet member of HCC for cycle lanes to see that they are clueless to this cities problems and do not listen.
Not a chance. The last referendum voted 90% plus to stay under ERCC, I voted for the merger. But I can see why there is so much opposition to any moves to extend the city boundary.
Mate you are blinded by hatred. Do you not think the other cities you mention Liverpool & Newcastle etc etc don’t have their own issues??? plenty of empty shops there too. But that doesn’t fit your agenda….. the problem is not a Hull problem, it’s a wider trend……
Funny how he constantly pulls down the City then cries like a little girl when anybody questions The Tigers ain't it ?
You couldn't be more wrong. You posted earlier that you don't live anywhere near Hull and haven't done so for 50 years. ( sorry it was Plum) Well I do and I am proud to be from Hull and will defend the place with my dying breath. But it hurts to walk around around our city centre, which could be fabulous, but the people look so poor which is why we have so many budget low end national chain stores, like you see everywhere, a race to the bottom. There is obviously no money here. We return the same labour council ( I was a labour party member) year after year, we once had three MP's who all held cabinet posts in the Government and yet Hull was constantly overlooked for investment and the council couldn't even fill the forms in correctly to get the EU grants. Like it or not HCC is full of cronyism and jobs/favours for the boys. As for the other cities having problems, of course they do, I do get out sometimes you know, but my point is there city centres are not dying on their feet like our is.
ehhh???? I’m not even 50 years old pal. Think you have me confused with someone else pal. I blame HCC….. either doubling my age or making you lose it !
Get to **** 'rattled' When you have something to add to the debate I will respond accordingly but that post like the majority of posts you make you sound like a 14 year old wet behind the ears ****er. Sorry if the truth hurts.
mate every town & city is in the same position. ****ed. Empty shops everywhere, town centres empty. How do you blame HCC for empty shops in Durham, Leeds or Cheshire??
