One thing that absolutely needs to be said is that Spurs fans simply wouldn't let him do his job this season

In his first season the fans supported him when he dropped the Kaboul Cabal en masse even though that was a sizable chunk of what was the starting xi not only at the start of the season but included players brought in during the Jol, Redknapp and AVB eras in Adebayor, Kaboul, Capoue and Lennon. In later seasons the fans were just as supportive when it was Bentaleb and Townsend getting jettisoned for acting out, even though both were products of our youth team

This season, however, something changed: when we left Danny Rose behind before our pre-season tour the fans took to Twitter demanding we don't sell him (and that's worked out really well, hasn't it?), when Vertonghen was in the stands for the first few games the fans demanded we drop Sanchez and get him back into the starting xi, and when Eriksen was on the bench for the first few games having played silly buggers all summer fans created a false narrative saying he single-handedly changed the game which simply isn't true

And that's the thing, people have claimed that Poch became too attached to players so wouldn't drop them, but the reality is that the fans weren't letting him drop players this season even though at the very least Rose and Eriksen were just as guilty of twatting about as the players that Poch Unpersoned in his first few years

There's definitely truth in that. I was shocked that Jan Vertonghen wasn't playing this season but then again, I'd no idea of how fractured things were in the camp...and that's the problem.

We all think that we understand what's going on, what's going wrong and how to fix it. We don't.

Very little leaks out of the club and I was shocked when Mauricio Pochettino said that Vincent Janssen wasn't putting it in during training because it wasn't his way.

It's going to be interesting to see which players up their efforts and how deep the alleged problems were in the squad. I suspect they might have gone deeper than I thought possible a few weeks ago.

Poch, the magic Spursman lived for the game
And gave us what we’d long time missed when he came to White Hart Lane
Little Danny Levy loved that magic Poch
But wanted a new stadium, so would not give him dosh!
(oh)
Poch, the magic Spursman etc (2 lines)
Poch, the magic Spursman etc (2 lines)

Four years Spurs really prospered on the Prem and CL trail,
(But) Danny kept his wallet locked, so Poch began to fail.
Sours in 2019 began to lose more games -
But the lack of transfers meant the tactics stayed the same

An owner makes a blunder, but no-one makes a noise:
Managers just get the sack (like Sam or David Moyes)
One grey night it happened, Danny gave the big thumbs down,
And Poch, that magic Spursman, was forced to leave the town.

The fans were full of sorrow, and felt Mauricio’s pain.
Poch no longer had his way down at new White Hart Lane.
Without DL’s support, Poch could not be saved,
So Poch that magic Spursman sadly gave a goodbye wave!

Not Jose...trackie on by Wednesday afternoon. Slept at training ground on Wednesday night because he had work to do Thursday morning.

I'm impressed with Jose's attention to the psychological aspect of practices.

Brucie bonus point to him for this.

<applause> You are such a wordsmith Audrey, brilliant once again! I fear the club has lost its soul! ££££££££££££ is all that matters......

That is not just ordinary beer. It's Spurs own brewery beer!
Do any of the beers at the ground cost £6? I thought the Beavertown ones were £5 and £5.50?
It's one of the reasons why I wasn't sure that the picture was taken there.

IIRC even for the test events the Beavertown prices were higher than at the other bars, since I remember noting that it's cheaper to get a round at the ST/\DIUM than anywhere in Croydon

And, yup, some frantic Googling reveals that to be the case

I haven't been in the Beavertown bar yet and if they charge more than other areas of the stadium, then that will continue to be the case! <laugh>

Found this gem the other day. The Ajax fans chanting sends a shiver down the spine. Unbelievable angle...

EDIT: Also highlights something I pointed out after the game: in both legs, Ajax's inexperience and inability to manage a game shone through. From the 1st goal which started with Rose nutmegging De Ligt who for some unknown reason had gone walkabouts and was in a RW position 60 yards away from where he should've been, to the 3rd and decisive goal. Onana's goal kick starts the final phase of play leading up to that. There are literally seconds left of the game. Look at Ajax's shape at 01:38...3 players clustered together in the midfield with 2 of them not marking anyone in particular, and another 3 players who think now is the time to stand deep inside our half.

It's like someone mows them all down with a machinegun when Moura scores. They were so happy, then... not so much! <laugh>

It's a real shame that it had to be Ajax, rather than some horrible bunch of ****bags, but the ****bags probably wouldn't have given us that chance.
Goal kick and all they need to do is shut things down. Formation? Er, what's that, again? It's alright lads, just stand about a bit.

Levy:
"You have to understand I had built up a personal relationship with Mauricio. It's not something I ever wanted. He'll come back stronger. Maybe one day he'll come back to us."

Would happily have him back in the future after Jose's won the quadruple with us.
