And before then, when I read it last night, the bottom of the page had the following :

I see the papers today are making 5 out of 2 and 2 again over the arrested Spurs fan, all "claiming" it was because of using the Y word.

Where does it say he used the Y word?, you can't single one bloke out in hundreds/thousands singing the same song. It was more like the offender using other language to the police....vociferously asking them to go away would be my guess!

Exactly, you can't arrest one person for something everyone else is doing. I would of thought in order to be convicted you would also need to show intent and someone would have to be offended. Let's not forget that if you pick someone randomly from a crowd on this, there is a chance you'll pick up a Jewish person for it. Imagine the implications! If that happens it would be the same as arresting a black person for using the N word! As has been mentioned though, I'm sure this arrest was for other reasons, and the media are just trying to create a story (I do vaguely remember when the media just reported stuff instead of creating it or making it up).

I would tend to agree with HIAG, there's more than enough going on in the world to get upset about instead of relatively petty events like this. I also agree that the whole thing is misguided and self defeating, it will only encourage more defiant use of the Y word from both Spurs fans, and unfortunately, rival fans.
