What's happened, over the last month, has shamed us imo.

If one of our own went to manage in London, and was subjected to this degree of hostility, we'd rightly be furious.

Askedy Dad tonight, who is late 80s and used to drive dray horses for Vaux as a bairn, what he thinks of Beale. His response was how he is Sunderland and I want him to be the next Stokoe. Sadly we seem to be losing our identity as Sunderland people who open our arms to all.

We grew up in a pit hovel with less than nowt ... old newspapers for toilet paper at the shared midden across the street.

But anyone who crossed our doors would have the red carpet rolled out by Mam.

No matter who it was from the Spanish onion seller, on his bike, to the weird fella who came round sharpening knives they'd all get a cup of tea in her best cup and biscuits or cake she'd be saving for a birthday or whatever. Us kids would watch as the blokes would polish off every last crumb and know there'd be none left for us. But it taught me a lesson that you should always treat people as you'd want them to welcome your children if they were away from home.

The lesson now seems to be to condemn people without giving them a bit of a chance and shun them ...

I think that’s true. I do think that the stadium will turn tomorrow if we go a goal down, though. I’ve made no secret of my disappointment around Beale’s appointment, but once he was in the building I’d obviously want him to succeed. In recent days, he’s given the impression that he’s got some sort of god-given right to manage a club like ours, and I’m really struggling with the way he has conducted himself. Labelling US as the ‘outside stuff’ is a complete disregard of the position he is luck enough to find himself in. We were told when he joined how much he loves himself, but even I can’t quite believe the extent to his lack of self-awareness. Here’s hoping for a result tomorrow.

Absolutely.
It saddens me that people have said that on this thread. I spend a lot of time telling people how great the NE is. The North East is chock full of people who wouldn't be as petty minded to say something like that.

My Granda grew up in the east end of Sunderland in the 1920s. I remember him saying that he was used to seeing people from all over the world walking about the place, it being a seafaring town. Someone from as close as South London wouldn't have fazed him in the slightest. Seems we lost the seafaring and we lost the worldliness.

Totally disagree. He is looked at negatively on his record which is limited and poor. That's why nobody wanted him.

I'm not going to judge him on his rangers spell tbh as I know a lot of things happened behind scenes that you and most don't know about. He must have been well regarded for them to pay off his contract at qpr to get him back. It didn't work out, but he's not the first manager to have a bad experience at old firm. Mowbray did as well. Even worse. He lost his last game 4.0 v St mirren but he recovered.

It's early days and far to sweeping to simply say he's unable to effect a game positively. Have you seen our bench?. He's not some miracle worker and as he says results are pretty much what they were for the 9 games before he arrived.
I'm not overly impressed with performances so far they've not been nearly as bad as many say. Pretty much same as all season. And he's had no Roberts or any left backs. The balance of the team isn't right. Surely he deserves a few more options and time on training field to make a difference. Is six weeks really long enough? How did Russell Martin do in his first six weeks?. Weren't very good at the SOL? But he was given a chance.

Can you afford me some context please?
Yes Wilko horrendous but had actually won the top division with Leeds a few year earlier - Beale couldn't dream of that. Still a disaster but that's what Beale is a league below.
Mcmenemy we all thought we'd be good at the time.
Parky and Buxton either league 1 or at low ebb league COVID wise.
