I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate - What if Ashley has been so **** scared about losing his mo

Charnley is the major problem this summer. I suspect that if he fails to deliver over the next month or so he will be quickly out on his ear. Ashley was effectively blaming Charnley for the lack of appointments. He took the blame for the overall mess, but was letting people know that Charnley should be the one to whom the hate should be directed.

If we sign a player in the next couple weeks and no manager has been installed it means that fat little **** has got the job. Surely to Christ Ashley, (and no matter what he says about Charnley, we know the ****ing buck stops with him) gives Carver the job it will kill us next season regardless of who we bring in. The whole backroom staff need to be cleansed from the club. They are shocking and we need fresh ideas. We have come a ****'s hair from relegation - this stagnation can simply not be allowed to continue because if Carver becomes permanent manager he will finish us off once and for all within a few months and by the time they have the courage to act and sack him, it will be too ****ing late.

You could argue that MA was lining up Penfold for the sack.
Don't forget the 'autopsy' into our season has yet to get underway and when it does, it will be easy to spot LC's hand in this.
If I were Mike, I'd get rid of Charnley first, then appoint his replacement and tell them their first job will be to sack Carver and rebuild from the top down.

It was clever the way he shifted blame after admitting the whole mess was his fault. So Charnley and the 'board' [that you are a director of Mike] are responsible for appointing the manager. That means, the board as a collective must agree to appoint someone. So, Mike Ashley will have a say in any appointment. Charnley is a second rate prick who should be sacked for his 'performance', but I am not fooled. Ashley agreed to give Carver the job in January.

Start afresh with someone that has some football savvy.
