He is owed money so if he is taking some back there can be no arguments. I'd rather he did it now than in January last year.

A bit more realistic. I thought a similar sort of figure would be a fair assessment of our situation. People hoping for a West Ham type splurge or anywhere near (and people on here were suggesting we should have that much prior to the accounts), are basically hoping we financially **** ourselves up the hoop.
I think it's likely there is more than £30m sitting there in the bank account but I wouldn't expect to see us spend it all. They will need some for cash flow until the next tranche of cash comes in, whenever that is - that is how the club operates and it's fair enough really. You add £40m or £50m in player sales and £70m or £80m total spend is probably what we should be looking at. I never heard figures higher than that being mooted by anyone. If we don't sell some of these players then it should be lower.

Rafa's comments yesterday are a clear sign that he's not happy with the club's approach and that Mr Ashley hasn't loosened the purse strings in terms of signing fees and wages. It'd be a terrible shame if that's the case because the club is in a great position to kick on this summer. 3 weeks to get the recruitment sorted then we can all make a judgement.

Now where have I heard that before.....

We can only pray something else is afoot. As G4rd said elsewhere, we can't hide behind accounts relating to the season in the Championship; a £90m loss would have been comfortably covered by TV money, with our finish/safety guaranteeing another minimum of £130m this season.

Something doesn't add up, pretty much everywhere. Whether it's a combination of factors such as Charnley being a useless ****, Barnes prying and spying, Ashley holding back somewhere or Rafa/Nickson simply getting their targets wrong, there's something wrong at the club. Barely 3 weeks to go and we're still one player down (albeit Slimani) in terms of first team staff. Actually, it's worse than that - Mbemba isn't here and somehow we cannot finalise his move, Mitrovic is pretty much done but that's another deal we can't finalise, Ritchie seems Stoke-bound, Gayle may follow and we're being treated to interviews with the maligned (at best, hated at worst) Joselu. Rafa hasn't signed a deal, appears to be completely uninterested in doing so either. The "best" rumour we have is Rondon, with the Townsend episode shot down instantly by Hodgson. Local rags are talking up Longstaff and Yarney, yet the former is almost certainly going to join the mighty Pompey on loan!!!

We're such a tin pot outfit. We should relocate the team to Roker Park, call it FC Marra and put up a massive block of flats in the shape of a ****ing headstone where SJP is. I bet it'd be several decades before Ashley noticed, as long as we stick a SD logo on the side of said flats.

It's not quite as bad as it appears. The £90m loss from last year doesn't need to be funded this year as a lot of the loss was an accounting loss. If you look back at the reports on the accounts there were a lot of write downs and one off charges. If you look at the change in bank balance (even if you remove the injection of an additional loan) it was nowhere near a £90m reduction. Profit (or loss) is not the same as cashflow. Trust me I work in finance*
