Don't put yourself down, that's for others to do.

Your drivel about insurance bets helped me out yesterday. I drew Argentina in the World cup sweepstake and of the teams drawn Argentina had conceded most goals with 9. I was on course to collect £40 from said sweepstake. I took out a chippy insurance bet for 5.5 goals or over on the final at 20/1 (if i'm honest, I had counted wrong and put both teams on 4 goals conceded). Insurance bets are the future!

I can se it from both angles We are in business and that's down to fat man.. But if he was just to release the purse strings a little I.e 40 million plus money generated from sales we'd all be a bit happier unfortunately the fat shyte does not see it that way And never will Its frustrating as we all know a little bit of investment in the right areas and we are on the point of achieving something.. Its the hope that kiss as they say.

Just kind of wonder why the money saved end of last summer, the sale of Merino, staggered payments of Sissoko etc and the nearly finalised transfer of Mbemba means we aren't in a position to spend, still.

Wor Rafa out saying he knows that he'll have to sell to buy as that's the way this club operates. If it's took him this long to be realising that, sumat tells you it's a rare way of operating.

Also saw him saying if players go over a certain amount he knows we'll never buy them. Basically must have been 100 places down the list before we bought Joselu.

I think Mbemba money, Merino money will be available to Rafa. I assume that is what he is saying. He is having to trade to buy. Understandable of course as we don't want to carry excess baggage like Mitro, Mbemba, Colbak, Sels, Lazaar, Saivet. Good chunk of fees and wages tied up there.

I think he's also saying he may have to trade someone like Ritchie to add another winger. I don't think he'd be allowed to have Kenedy, Ritchie, Townsend, Murphy, Atsu for instance (Aarons too if you like). I think he is accepting to get what he sees as an upgrade in Townsend, the wages and fees have to be paid in part by the sale of another front liner. I can't see a problem with that personally otherwise we will just get into deep water again with wages.

It looks like normal football club trading rules. West Ham have bucked the trend somewhat by buying loads of players and then having a firesale. I don't think Ashley would take that kind of risk with us but that's ok. As long as we improve our squad in the eyes of the manager then we are making progress. The only issue is I suspect Fulham and Porto etc are sitting saying "just sit tight, once they buy their selling position weakens". If it comes to that kind of brinkmanship Ashley will just say "use these players Rafa, I can't get a decent deal". I think that is where the fans are a bit miffed as most clubs accept they have to take a bath on players they sell.

I understand the point, just feels like he could actually now speculate to accumulate a pretty small amount that would not damage the club whatsoever.

I don't think Fulham and that are sitting tight either. Ashley will be stroking his lardy tum saying "sit tight, I know I can get them to 25m" whilst also not buying any players. All previous windows have effectively gone this way, hence why we never had time to replace big sales

Add in the question where has the Jorgensen money gone? We were reported as bidding for Jorgensen in January but now several months later including 2 chunks at least of Sky money and being further in credit with the sale of Merino only offset by the purchase of D’goalkeeper we apparently need to sell before we can buy.

This one’s set for a Pouchy answer.

"Newcastle United have earned more than £123million from the 2017/18 Premier League campaign after securing a top-half finish - which Rafa Benitez has stressed to the Magpies board should bolster his transfer budget."

Even if we were £90m in the hole after the Championship season there's still £30m from prize funds left over last season. Commercially we should be taking in money as well and we haven't spent very much in the last 12 months. Net £10-20m spent on players last year?

Where does all this money go?

According to Pouch logic, one must sell every last bit of deadwood before one can make failed bids for new players.

Come on guys lay off Pouchy, if you all force him and Ben off the board I'm probably the next most controversial on here, well, bar the turncoat... :emoticon-0141-whew:

Seriously though I do see the fact we HAVE to move the deadwood on (players like Colback and Saviet will be on a pretty penny or two) but I think we are cutting down young sapling tree's to stockpile rotting, maggot infested chipboard at present.<doh>

If we don't spend at least £30m net on transfers this summer then I'd say the strategy has gone back to stockpiling money or paying off loans to Ashley. The numbers just don't add up if the club are trying to suggest there's no money for transfers otherwise.

We can only pray something else is afoot. As G4rd said elsewhere, we can't hide behind accounts relating to the season in the Championship; a £90m loss would have been comfortably covered by TV money, with our finish/safety guaranteeing another minimum of £130m this season.

Something doesn't add up, pretty much everywhere. Whether it's a combination of factors such as Charnley being a useless ****, Barnes prying and spying, Ashley holding back somewhere or Rafa/Nickson simply getting their targets wrong, there's something wrong at the club. Barely 3 weeks to go and we're still one player down (albeit Slimani) in terms of first team staff. Actually, it's worse than that - Mbemba isn't here and somehow we cannot finalise his move, Mitrovic is pretty much done but that's another deal we can't finalise, Ritchie seems Stoke-bound, Gayle may follow and we're being treated to interviews with the maligned (at best, hated at worst) Joselu. Rafa hasn't signed a deal, appears to be completely uninterested in doing so either. The "best" rumour we have is Rondon, with the Townsend episode shot down instantly by Hodgson. Local rags are talking up Longstaff and Yarney, yet the former is almost certainly going to join the mighty Pompey on loan!!!

We're such a tin pot outfit. We should relocate the team to Roker Park, call it FC Marra and put up a massive block of flats in the shape of a ****ing headstone where SJP is. I bet it'd be several decades before Ashley noticed, as long as we stick a SD logo on the side of said flats.

I don't want to be seen as an AHC (Ashley Happy Clapper) like FreeDor but you seem to be forgetting the other running costs of the club (the biggest being player salaries etc), which are certainly not met by ticket or commercial revenue so take a proportion of the TV income. The lack of this income was the reason we made a significant operating loss in the Championship even with our first parachute payment.

I would suspect he is taking back the short term loan he provided for the Championship season out of the monies from last season which may put us in a sell to buy mode if he doesn't want to "speculate to accumulate".

A bit more realistic. I thought a similar sort of figure would be a fair assessment of our situation. People hoping for a West Ham type splurge or anywhere near (and people on here were suggesting we should have that much prior to the accounts), are basically hoping we financially **** ourselves up the hoop.

£30million net would be totally acceptable. 3 weeks to see.

It is quite feasible that he will actually take out some of the money he has loaned the club. I believe it is £145 million now. This could potentially be repaid in 2-4 years if we are tight and do not get relegated.

This might pave the way for him selling a 'clean' club with no debts whatsoever. This is an attractive proposition for any would be buyers.

The problem I have with things is that it feels a bit like a gamble again.

We finished 11 points off relegation last season. The bottom three clubs where reasonable well established premier league clubs who had spent money in the past but still got relegated. So spending money does not guarantee success. I personally believe that some premier league clubs actual buy and replace new players unnecessarily sometimes.

The key to long term success has to be the scouting network and developing young players.

I'm more than happy to gamble on getting rid of the loathsome bastard. I'd get Joselu on the back of a £60 shirt and a tattoo of Lee Charnley if there was the remotest chance of seeing that horrendous sack of toss gone.
