Restaurants... some of the best in the world in London. These people barely ever make food at home.

Shopping... the metro centre doesn't have a Selfridges, Manchester also has Harvey Nic's, boutique designer shops and high end jewellers, not to mention every top end car manufacturer have showrooms in Cheshire.

The plane to London in half hour is pointless, you have to go to the airport, check in, fly, get out of the airport, find your way across London... farce.

Houses... Cheshire and London/Home counties... nothing in the North East can compete.

Having said that, it's no excuse, agents will force their players into Sunderland if the pound is right, some of these players come from Eastern Europe, Africa, Russia, South America... not all of them are coming from Milan or Paris!

I'm sure that footballers...even as dumb and stupid as they and their air head WAGS are have a wider choice than these two places to shop as well as some decent jewelers as well. There are some very good places to part with your cash in the NE

As for Houses...I'm guessing you don't know the north east that well....some amazing places. If I had untold cash, Northumberland for me every time over the places you mention...

I sense you're a little offended, which wasn't my intention.

Shopping wise, you'd be right, most WAG's are happy to shop in all sorts of places, but the option of the high end fashion is there, which it isn't in Newcastle or Sunderland. They'd be left having to use the internet, Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter etc. We also have an abundance of boutiques, so I never suggested it was just two. We also have a ridiculous amount of high end furniture shops, a much greater selection of top places to eat, the bars, the car dealerships... everything. Mostly, it's about status, you live in Alderley Edge or Prestbury or in that area down here, you have a status and that's what these footballers seem to care most about.

You went for a personal preference, most foreigners won't come with that personal preference, they'll just buy houses where the money is, that's what I mean when I say you can't compete up there, everything is much more scarce and limited, the same applies when comparing here to London. I'm not saying it's a better place to live, just has more to offer, undeniably.

i'm suprised dick has come out and said something along the lines of 'i wont be getting the players i want, but hopefully get some players.' Not exactly the confidence boost any new signing would want to hear. Not exactly a boost for the fans either. Unless its a way in keeping our cards close to our chest! An elaborate bluff.

I can see that Manchester might have a bigger pull than say the North East, similarly London will have a bigger pull than Manchester, but its got to be down to what type of player there is.
When Noocastle were riding high they were getting top quality players in, but now with the decline of the North East as a footballing hot bed we are all struggling to attract top quality footballers.
What I am saying is its not just the location but also where the teams are in the league that attracts certain types of players.

Agree with the last part. Newcastle always overpaid to get their 'top players' as well, don't forget. Owen went for £16m which was twice Liverpool's valuation and about £120k a week IIRC.

I'm sure you'd attract much 'better' players if your owner was prepared to financially cripple your club.

Whilst it does annoy me that geographical location does count, I do also understand that people are different.

It's not just in football, we all choose where to live and work etc based on what we like. On a personal level, I've twice lived abroad and I live in Newcastle rather than Sunderland as there is more of what I like here, it's the same principle to a degree.

If I was a multi millionaire, I'd have a place in the North East, but I probably wouldn't live here full time, in fact, I definitely wouldn't.

There are nice beaches and beautiful countryside locally, there are some beautiful homes and buildings, but there isn't exactly a great deal to do here, there's no getting away from that. As Terry says, we DO have incredibly limited shopping, we have a load of bars and clubs that are all playing the same music to the same people, and we have a dire shortage of world class local events, and a pretty poor travel set up. We have to go to London to go to most places on holiday, and even that means a flight, or a flight and a coach if we want to use Gatwick and go Caribbean.

These things do matter to wealthy young couples, and they certainly would matter to me, so what we need to be doing is making the CLUB more attractive. How do we do that?

Well, the fans backing the team would be a start, and buying foreign, like it or lump it, and going through a few years like Southampton of finding talent and selling at a profit but we simply do not have the scouting network. I guess, in short, I'm saying the scouting network needs improved, we need to poach scouts from clubs that are finding players relentlessly, like Southampton. Make a top scout an offer they can't refuse to work with Congerton, that will not cost 100k a week.

be good in the very short term

European/Champions League has a lot to do with it, Spurs have lost players signing to Arsenal due to Champions League not location

Why sign for a club that doesn't know who there manager is next season? If I was de Guzman or even toblerone I'd have second thoughts myself.. Dick is quality no doubt, it's the instability of our club at the moment that may be putting players off.

Because of Champions League
Bit like what ManCity are doing to utd these days

Nothing like what City are doing to United at all, City are winning the power battle in Manchester for now, fair enough, I'm man enough to accept that, the torch seems to have been passed to them for the foreseeable future.

Spurs never had a ****ing torch.
